Yes, Rudy Giuliani Is a Conservative
City Journal ^ | Jan.25, '07 | Steven Malanga

Personally, I prefer Tancredo although I admire "America's Mayor," and this article sheds some light on Rudy's little known conservative and courageous accomplishments.

Hunter's position on free trade and his overt protectionist bent WILL keep him from getting a lot of money and support. That message is anathema to Wall Street, business, and most of the general public.

Unless he flip flops on that, gets a speaking coach, an acting coach, THE best speech writers in the world, THE best team to help him through the ropes, major GOP office holders' backing, and far more than 100 million dollars, he is NOT going to take off like a cherry bomb; let alone a rocket.

I've never said that he doesn't have some good positions, he does, but so what, so do other people.

Oh, there's still some humor...you obviously have missed it.

I stay as far away from FR's religious section as is humanly possible! I don't appreciate other people telling me that I'm a heretic, don't belong to the "RIGHT" church, and the internecine warfare over there is disgusting!

Yes, IF you choose to be on these kinds of threads you are going to have to 1) grow a much thicker skin 2) stop reading things into other people's posts 3) learn a LOT more facts about the reality of what politics is and how it works.

That is precisely why my check book is snapped shut, as to Mr. Hunter, without further inquiry. We each have our own little hot button issues, and those who dislike protectionism, tend to have more to give out of their checking accounts, than the population at large. That may be "unfair," but it is reality.

The do NOT like protectionists! Once Hunter gets out in the open, so to speak and should he talk about what he thinks about "FREE TRADE", your husband will know, immediately, what the "STREET" thinks of him and it will NOT be "good".

i still see some humor, but i seem to have this morbid curiousity for the election threads. which of course gets me into debates as of late.

yep i dont go there anymore, not good for my blood pressure!
plus its all the same old tired arguments and faith bashing. you would think christians would be united on a common ground. who woulda thought?

sigh..i know i know already, im just not very good at articulating (obviously)

i just cant bring myself to jump on the band wagon for rudy (or mcain) so regardless of the odds, hope against hope, im putting my effort in duncan. despite the fact that its may not look good so far.

its early yet, lots of things can happen and most of the candidates have some pretty bad baggage. being unknown and basically out of the limelight so far might work in his favor.

like i said in the end ill support the GOP candidate. as im sure most conservatvies will. they just gotta fight it out until then. actually i think some really enjoy getting down and dirty!

BINGO!

When I found out about his overtly 19th century POPULIST PROTECTIONISTIC position, I knew that he was doomed. His really stupid, childish crack about not needing 100 million dollars, because he was and is a Conservative, made me aware that he hasn't the glimmer of an idea what he's doing.

He is more more a "serious" candidate than Tancredo is.

The abortion debate is a complete waste of time since there is no resolution.

Sure there's a resolution. For every child in the womb, there is either the resolution of birth or the resolution of death.

Pretty simple.

well guess ill brace myself!
we didnt agree on govenor either in 06. he went with the dem (though not a liberal) and i voted straight R, even though i knew that he wouldnt make it.
he (the republican) didnt really try though-a few adds in the local paper, an ad with cheneys endorsement, but thats about it. still he got something like 20% of the vote here. not bad for no effort. LOL

There are some of THE most UNCHRISTIAN Christians, posting to the religious section. There are a few VERY good people there as well, but their voices get drowned out.

Nobody is asking you to jump on ANYONE'S bandwagon right now; at least, I'm not. All I am asking everyone, is for them to look at the UNVARNISHED facts and to stop spamming vicious lies and propaganda.

Do you even know where all of the supposed candidates REALLY stand and what all of them have done or not done?

You didn't know about the protectionist stuff. Do you suppose that perhaps there are other things you don't know about the guy you like; about the guys you don't like?

I know that I'm still learning things about all of them. :-)

Oh dear............20% is what you get with just your name on the ballot.

Why did your husband vote for the Dem? Is he a Dem?

well ive gotten to know rudy pretty well. i dont dislike the guy, hes done some good things. mcain well i think he just sticks his finger in the wind to see which way its blowing, so hes a non issue.

perhaps i do need to do more research on duncan, but my main concerns are pro life, pro 2nd ammendment and the WOT.

youre right, i do probally need to learn more, but i still think he is inline with my values, moreso than say rudy or mcain.

yes youre right about the religious forum. i still read over there, but stick mostly to the catholic threads and i dont post. its useless!

nope hubbys a republican though we differ on the abortion issue.

mostly because i think he isnt aware of whats really going -lots of ladies at work over the years drilled into him that as a man he has no right or say.

however, when i put in personal terms like "if i found i was pregnant today, but decided on an abortion, would you support me" or something along those lines i always get the same response "i dont want to talk about it" and thats the end of it.
so while he claims to be pro choice, im not totally convinced that he is. he just buys into the whole notion that since hes a man, he really shouldnt have an opinion.

our govenor, while a dem isnt liberal and is pro 2nd ammendment (a big issue for hubby). in a state where the vast majority of voters are conservative it says alot that he was reelected. i think the hathaway scholarship played a major part in it.

Thank you for being willing to look at what everyone says and doesn't say. I'm right there with you.....except for McCain.

There's a whole LOT of stuff that is just plain wrong with him; far more than I bet you know. I will vote for whoever is the GOP nominee, but if, GOD FORBID, it's McCain, I don't know HOW I will manage to do that.

A president really can't do much about the abortion stuff, except for nominating strict Constructionist justices and funding UN stuff. Rudy is NOT a fan of the UN and he thinks that Scalia, Roberts, and Alito are the kind of people who should be on the Scotus. He is for strict Constructionist judges.

My FIRST hot button issue is the WOT and our military. :-)

Well, maybe you just shouldn't talk about abortion with your husband. It doesn't sound to me, as though he even wants to go near the subject and he doesn't really sound as though he approves of it anyway. :-)

I'm not familiar with HATHAWAY SCHOLARSHIPS. Could you tell me a bit about them; please?

thats what i meant with mcain. i dont like him at all and your right, probally alot more that id find disturbing. i will definatly have to wear a hazmat (sp?) suit to vote for him!

yes our military is a big issue for me too and the WOT. i realize rudy seems very strong in this area, but the other areas are also close to my heart.

like i said if hes the nominee, ill vote for him. hes just not my first pick. too liberal for my tastes on social issues.

thats good to know about rudy. itll help if i have to vote for him:)

I wanted to mention, that I had come across arguments in similar context at Renew America (Alan Keyes's site), in an essay written by Ken Connor, from christianpost.com and reappearing on justsociety.org.

Advocating the reversal of judicial advocacy by overturning Roe v. Wade and putting it on ballots in every state is most likely not realistic. Neither is advocating stacking ultra-conservative judges who will judically advocate the reversal of former judicial advocacy.

Given that, I believe most voters would be inclined to vote FOR legalized abortion given the chance in many states. If people are really as morally repulsed as they claim to be, it would have already happened. Someone pointed out, as long as middle-class and affluent women are allowed to vote, abortion will be legal.

Perhaps the best idea would be to abolish SCOTUS and return all lawmaking to the individual states, who could then compete for residents by offering abortion, cleaner air and water, better highways, stiffer death sentences, vegetative intervention, less stringent environmental controls, gun control, less illegals, and so on.

Since none of this appears close to happening, the point is moot to me, sinner that I may be. Hope this helps! Ciao, redux!

yeah, we dont discuss it anymore. he can say hes pro choice all he likes, but i know better:)

The hathaway scholarship rewards eligible Wyoming students with scholarship money to attend the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college. The program provides merit and need based awards to eligible students.

so basically low income familys can get a full ride. It is also there in differing amounts of money depending on your GPA.

there is a certain amount if your GPA is 3.5 or above and then less for below that and less again if you are say a C student, but still some available.

he got it started and then ran for reelection based on making it permanent. we'll see if he holds true to his word.

since we have a young man coming up on college age in a few years (it goes by fast) and on the A honor roll, it was something hubby felt was important and that every little bit helps with the rising cost of college.

so basically this time around, he voted with his pocket book;)

LMAO! TommyDale, do you get the feeling these lib infiltrators to FR saw the '06 election srategy as a win? STFU, but don't forget to vote for the "R". The biggest political coup in America, Hildebeast with an "R" by her name. Thank you IronJack, I've been saying this for months. Blackbird.

You do deserve an apology Howlin, Grampa Dave as well, and to all the FReepers who contributed to the thread in question, this from a "trashing the FReepathon" thread (Grandpa Dave's post was cited in the top post).  Grampa Dave is a true patriot, and always bumps up the FReepathon threads with inspiring words:

What the $%&* did Howlin have to do with the Buckhead/Rather thing? She couldn't find her way out of a wet paper sack. The Rather thing was purely Buckhead from what I remember.
