Please explain the Spanish Inquisition and how it contributed to the enlightenment of the country? How did throwing out the Jews and the Moors (Arabs) benefit the country in any way? The history class I took in Spain in the 70s seemed to indicate that the repression of the Church (and Christianity and its domination of the government) kept Spain in a dark age much beyond that of the rest of Europe.
