WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney's pregnant lesbian daughter Mary will make a "fine mom," President George W. Bush said, sidestepping his past comment that a child ideally would be raised by a mother and father.
Mary Cheney, 37, and her longtime partner, Heather Poe, are expecting their first child, which would be the sixth grandchild for the vice president. Cheney was hired last year as an executive for America Online.
"I think Mary is going to be a loving soul to her child. And I'm happy for her," Bush said in an interview with People magazine.

imagine if the ideas being put forth in the debate on this thread were somehow made part of the republican political platform. again, this issue is not about gay marriage or "zero parent" gay adoption.
what would the platform say? that any pregnant lesbians would have their children taken from them and placed into foster homes? and what about pregnant single heterosexual women, are they also not "worthy" of bearing and raising their own children?
I'm not really sure what we are even debating on these threads about mary cheney - the idea of some kind of "litmus tests for pregnancy" listed above are so out of any kind of mainstream thought, there really isn't anything to talk about.
Would be interesting, especially at the Crouch and Haggard households.

President Bush was wise to avoid becoming a punching bag over Mary Cheney per se. Bush was not defending what Mary Cheney has done. Any conservative who does defend Mary Cheney is being hypocritical, but I don't think any conservatives have defended her behavior. The lefties would love to make these battles personal, but the issue is over the objective morality of behavior, not over particular people. I think Mary Cheney does deserve condemnation, but I don't think President Bush should take the bait on this particular issue.
I started out saying something about common sense ...its pretty clear for some of these folks there isnt much of that around.
