My mom, my dad, my grandmother, and the school system. We also had neighbors with kids where we would hang out. pretty much everyone in my neighborhood had two working parents.

You're very lucky that you had a good family/neighborhood support structure. The vast majority of kids in your situation have neither. Which is why so many of them end up beat up/molested/in gangs/on drugs/in the shrink's office/etc.

I was just going by your post. Are you saying that in general, you do believe that career parents aren't "true" parents but just in the Cheney case, you disagree?

I was specifically referring to the Cheney case. As I said in my previous post, I believe that parents who put their careers ahead of their children (except in the case of true need) are doing their kids a grave disservice and have their priorities screwed up.

I agree with this. But I also do not believe that the majority of career people put their career before their children. It's possible to have a career while still prioritizing your children. At least I believe this.

Do you have any kids yet? After I had my first, I made up my mind to do whatever it took to raise that baby the best way I could. My "career" is only a means to that end. If I had the financial wherewithall to quit my job tomorrow and still provide a roof, clothing and food for my kids, I would in a second. God and family are my #1 and #2 priorities, bar none.

Bingo. You have a career. You still sound like a good parent to me. As I mentioned, I believe that the majority of career parents are like you - with a career, but the clear priority going to that of the children. Of course the majority of people would rather not work and stay with their children. But that's not often an option.

I agree with this. I just don't understand why you believe that Mary Cheney would be more likely to fall into this category than any other parent out there.
