Measure Would Prohibit Texans From Smoking In Their Own Homes

Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services has approved a new rule that will prohibit any family that has foster children living with them from smoking in their own home.

"The rule prohibits foster parents from smoking in their homes, as long as there are children assigned to their homes," said Darrell Azar of the TDPRS. "It also bans foster parents from smoking in their cars if there are children present in their cars.

It is believed to be the toughest anti smoking rules in the country, and the first rules ever approved that prohibit smoking inside detached homes.

Azar said visitors to the homes will be prohibited from smoking in the homes as well, and he promises inspectors will check to make sure the rule is being followed.

"If we were doing a monitoring visit and we came out and found that there were cigarette butts in the ash try, that would mean that somebody was smoking in the house, and that would be a violation."

He says the dangers of second hand smoke, especially to children, are well documented.

He says the no smoking rules will be part of the contract adults sign to get foster children in their homes. The rules take effect January first.

Sounds like they took a page from MAINE!

Maine:  Do not smoke if your a foster parent!  The DHS says so!  It's ok if you sprawl on the couch at night drunk though!

When they're done with the people who smoke, they'll start on the people who eat Twinkies, and end with a humorless society free of any socialization or human interaction.

Then, the younger generations will start eating the older generations for fun, and society will be done.

Yes, keep those irresponsible smoking parents away and let's give these children to the types who'd beat them and lock them naked in closets

You read my mind.

Nothing like reducing their potential pool for Foster Parents. I guess they feel the greater good is served by ensuring that children do not get the care and upbringing in a home. Warehousing is much preferred.

Foster kids are going to be out of luck. I bet that the "government" that made up this rule will rue the day they extended their "rules" in to private homes! That's fine. Those "government" freaks can take all the foster kids!

Ya'll are right, of course. Here's the problem: when these entitlement programs [and yes, foster care is in with the rest of them] were begun, no one bothered about term limits and such. This is typical of tax-and-spend liberals.

That's why we have such a mess now. And these same limousine libbies are often environmentally over-conscious, and that's the only "logical" way to beat them at their own ridiculously ignorant game.

Well, I'm just shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you! As if the kids care. I'm sure nobody asked them. Or, are we to assume this is because smokers were burning their little charges on their little bodies?

I was joking with a friend the other day and we were discussing child abuse and he mentioned homosexual molestation. I said that no, that was man-boy love and perfectly acceptable, but if you're smoking while diddling the little guy, now THAT's child abuse.</p>

Unfortunately, NAMBLA would agree exactly with you. I didn't believe there was such a group until I went to their website. Now I fear my 'puter could be confiscated for accessing porn, even though it was quite accidental.
