Atlanta police went to a home on Neal Street in Atlanta last evening to execute a search warrant. When they kicked the door in the only occupant of the home, a 92-year-old woman, started shooting. She hit all three police officers. One in the thigh, one in the arm and another in the shoulder. All police officers will be OK. The woman will not. She was shot and killed by the police.
I'm not blaming the cops here. Not at all. They had a valid search warrant, and they say they were at the right address. Shots were fired, three cops hit, and they returned fire. A 92-year-old woman who was so afraid of crime in her neighborhood that she had burglar bars on every door and window, is now dead.
The blame lies on this idiotic drug war we're waging. We have all the studies we need, all of the comprehensive data is in. We can do a much more effective job of reducing drug use in this country if we'll just take a portion of this money we spend for law enforcement and spend it on treatment programs. A Rand study showed that we can reduce illicit drug usage in this country a specified amount through treatment programs at about 10% of the cost of reducing drug usage by that same amount through criminalization and law enforcement.
There's just something in the American psyche that demands that drug users be punished instead of treated and rehabilitated. We think they're stupid and ignorant for getting mixed up with those drugs in the first place. And you know what? We're right? But look at the messages we send to our children every single day with cigarettes, alcohol, and an endless stream of drug ads on television and in magazines. Drug culture? You bet we have.
If you are a cop. Then you know the post is true. The blue crowd always defends itself.<<<<<<<<<<<
More like the "blue crowd" may have a better idea what really goes on and is not deluded into thinking the problems surrounding the WOD can be easily solved by legalization.
It's not BS and I know it's true.
No knocks are supposedly for the prevention of destruction of evidence, but what's the primery type of enforcement that used no knock? Drug busts. What was the test case that got no knocks approved by the courts? A drug bust. The war on drugs has been used to hack the Bill of Rights to pieces, and attempts to deny it are attempts to deny basic reality
And I notice how you carefully ignored the problem that right now owning too much Sudafed makes someone a drug offender.
Then why stop with the WOD. Your logic indicates that all crime should be legalized in order to prevent such incidents.
The case for legalizing all drug use or particular drug use and cases like this are apples and oranges.
One word - alcohol. We already have a model that works pretty well for the legal drug alcohol. We use that same model for these other substances. Most folks who use these things now aren't addicts, just like most drinkers aren't alcoholics. There's no reason to believe it can't work.
Prohibition demands perfection in human beings. To my knowledge, no one is perfect, so prohibitions are doomed to fail from the start. It's best to leave people to their own devices, knowing that some will stumble and fall, just like some do with alcohol. But most won't.
More like the "blue crowd" may have a better idea what really goes on and is not deluded into thinking the problems surrounding the WOD can be easily solved by legalization.
Surrogates for bad politicians. Self Serving. I kinda doubt it. Cops have an in born need to abuse others. They fulfill that need by acting as surrogates for their masters. Who is going to complain if they abuse a druggie?
"That's an impressive list.
Soros' people do good work.
(Are the benefits good?)"
I must say I'm surprised that you aren't posting in ALL-CAPS!!!
It would certainly match your rhetorical style.
I gather from the general drift of your posts that you may have OD'd on gubmint Koolaid. Chugalugging that poison is bad for the soul.
Well we've got to do something about runny noses dammit. I find it funny that if we talk 2nd amendment then it's "if you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns." But when you talk WOD then where's the same reasoning to putting Sudafed behind the counter?? If you outlaw Sudafed, only outlaws will have Sudafed. And as everyone knows, the supply of meth has not dropped one iota since all of these stupid laws have hit the books, it's just made it a pain in the ass for me and everyone else to go get cold medicine. But don't the politicians look good doing "something"???
And how long have you been with the local narcotics unit?
But it was specified ;-)
Yeah, the wording was wierd.
But don't the politicians look good doing "something"???
There is the problem. Outlaw politicians.
They fulfill that need by acting as surrogates for their masters. Who is going to complain if they abuse a druggie?<<<<<<<
You're kidding, right? Got a little problem with authority? And having said that, let me add that anyone who actually abuses anyone else under the color of authority should lose their job and be prosecuted.
Do yourself a favor, do a ridealong in South Central and tell me about all the abuse you witness. Talk to the residents who pray for a black and white to come by and roust the thugs who terrorize the neighborhood and make it impossible for kids to play outside. It's all the fault of the cops, they're the problem.
Amen. I think Shakespeare was onto something. Most politicians are lawyers first.
History might not repeat itself, but stupidity sure does:

Think of the progeny of these folks who have been legally supplied (by the government probably) with various combinations of drugs.
It's funny how we never hear about "crack babies" now that George Soros owns the Democrat party and their mainstream media.
**Generations* of people will have to be taken care of by the government.
And this is what the Libertarians see as a solution. Just like "open borders" they think they can just wave a magic bong and there will be sunshine and daffodils.
They want to get stoned. --And to hell with the rest of us.
