"Are the hospitals taking donations for the injured?"

I am not sure if the following info. applies in this situation.

Most Amish families have a "pay as you go" type healthcare arrangement with their local doctors or hospitals. The families pool their money together and pay. This may or may not apply in this instance. But knowing just a little background...I will ask friends who live in that area for more info....or defer to those on FR like Thumper who may know more detailed info.

The Amish pay for everything in cash up front...land, farm equipment, medical expenses. But you may be able to donate something to Penn State Hershey Medical Center or Lancaster General Hospital and have it earmarked for their medical expenses or (in the case of Hershey) lodging.

My husband had heart surgery 2 months ago at one of the hospitals where they are now caring for the victims. The waiting room was always full of Amish. When one of theirs is hospitalized, a large clan is there from sun-up to sundown, always in attendance. They bring the little tykes and coolers of food. They have their meals there and sit with a bit of sewing, patiently waiting all day long.

Outside the hospital it's not uncommon to see a buggy tied to a parking meter. In fact, when my father had surgery earlier this summer, I had to step around a pile of "road apples" in front of the main entrance.
