As for what she could've done: Called the cops. Even if they couldn't have stopped it, the wife could take some comfort that she tried.

And FWIW, we don't know that she didn't call the cops. Did she, and was she blown off? If so, I think the public needs to know that, too.

How do you know she didn't call the cops? I believe by the time she got home, the cops had been notified already.

She called him first, as any wife would. The cops were already there when she called him. She obviously notified the cops at some point, or they wouldn't have had the info from her for the press release.
