Update 2: Pennsylvania Police: Amish School is 'Horrendous Crime Scene' After Shooting
NICKEL MINES, Pa. At least two female students and one slightly older female who may have been a teacher's aide were shot and killed execution style in what police say may be a revenge killing for something that happened 20 years ago.
State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said Monday that truck driver Charles Carl Roberts IV entered the one-room Amish schoolhouse in earlier in the day. The gunman brought in pieces of wood to board up the doors to the building when he entered the school. He also stacked desks against the building's doors.
"It appears that the suspect entered school with the intention of taking hostages," Miller said.
Roberts had wire ties and plastic flex cuff, which he used to begin tying the hostages feet together after they were lined up along a blackboard. He let go 15 male students, as well as one adult female who was pregnant. Three other non-student females with infants were also allowed to leave. One shotgun and one handgun was found next to the suspect when police entered the building.
"It seems as though he wanted to attack young, female victims," Miller said.
After a half hour inside, Roberts began shooting. When the gunfire stopped, three females were found shot dead at the scene, along with the suspect, who shot himself, Miller said. At least seven more victims some critically wounded were transported to nearby hospitals, he said. One victim, a young girl, died in the arms of a trooper, Miller said. He could not confirm how many people died en route or at the hospital. The county coroner earlier reported six children killed but then backed off of that statement.
It's a wonder the Spokesman could talk at all. This leaves me just speechless it's so horrible.
A grudge against little girls?! This guy was sheer evil.
Understand you? No.
Signing off - not feeling well.
Comfort them, O Lord.
One of the little girls died in the arms of one of the troopers
Thank you.
Yup.
perp had 3 children of his own
Now that we have the internet to consider most of us have several more names.
Perp told his wife this morning that he was going to "get revenge for something that happened 20 years ago"...
aw CHEEZ!
Some of you need a little Amish education. Not all Amish believe/ live by equally strict standards. There are different degrees of acceptance of "modern" technology depending where they are in the country what sect they belong to from. I can give some insight into the Amish in Lancaster, Pa because that's where I grew up. Some of these facts may surprise you. The Amish, on the whole are smart business people. A good number do have electricity. The phones are often located at the end of the driveway in what might be mistaken for a port-a-john. They may ride in cars but after marriage may not own one. Many unmarried men of driving ng age will purchase cars for weekend use. These kids are wickedly dangerous drivers from what I've seen. Yes, they do drink and party as teenagers. There are drug problems in the community, and there have been busts in Lancaster county for Amish/Pagan motorcycle gang drug rings. The people are good natured and will interact with others who are not Amish. Though they don't have T.V.'s in there homes they are well informed through the local newspapers. Main mode of transportation is the horse and buggy, but many use scooters, rollerblades, and to a lesser extent bicycles. Pa dutch food is exceptional and will cause high degrees of weight gain in a short amount of time. Go to an Amish market if you want to experience some of the best cakes and pastries you've ever hadTheir cheeses are awesome as well.
Much of what you're saying is also reflective of the Amish community in NE Ohio, especially as Greater Cleveland grows geographically and their formerly rural areas become suburban. Indeed, many Amish families have been moving to Kentucky for precisely this reason.
One common sight in heavily Amish areas is Amish girls carrying knapsacks. Those knapsacks often contain clothes that they change into in places like gas station restrooms. Many of them want to catch an "English" (non-Amish) guy and make an effort to do so, to be polite.

My reply to see if it was someone from the community was to the fact they would have been under constant television barrage of last week's events. If he were from within the community, it would not be possible. He put his kids on a school bus before all of this, which indicates he is not one from the farms. The spokesman said it does not appear he is from the Amish community.
This has upset me too, shaking and crying. My maternal German ancestors settled in Berks County back in the early 18th century.
Shot at troopers before shooting himself...
ALL female students were shot, plus female teacher's aide...
I agree, personally I think the trooper giving out the information in this presser is doing quite well, for what he just came away from...
This is so horrible...
all victims were female.....2 students and 1 aide
Sick...he bound all of the female students, let the boys go and then shot the girls execution syle
