I think now, with this revelation from the press conference, it is obvious why he chose the Amish school - thinking it would allow him time to do his evil deeds before anyone got to a telephone.
i would expect someone that methodical to be extra careful NOT to let anything show. If someone got wind of something being wrong, it could *ruin* his plans.
I agree. At the presser, the PSP Col. stated several times that it was the 'accessiblity' of the school, not the Amish nature that made it the killer's choice. No access to phones. No way to call for help to stop his plan. The ultimate in evil.
That makes my blood run cold but I totally agree. Tactical error on his part but too bad for him. At least now he has a LOOOOOONG time to think about what he did.
I'm just speculating and trying to make sense of this atrocity.

What does a responsible, law abiding individual keeping guns have to do with this horrendous crime other then perhaps if such a person was in the vicinity, they may have been able to prevent it? People like you scare me.
One of the posters here said yesterday we may learn more from the Amish in this than they from us, and today that is clear to me.
I am not going to ask them to be any different because evil befell them, but more than that I am witnessing their faith and how they live.
As far as I know, photos and names of the victims have not been released to the media. This is good! Personally, I hope the Amish are able to maintain their privacy in the face of media pressure.

very true Metmom, I think with 'some' of the teenagers who have committed or tried commit these crimes have done some talking. But, the police office (who did a fine job with the reporting) mentioned it is not unusual for these individuals to lead double lives and internalize it.
I will pray for continued protection over all our children and peace for their families. I will pray for peace for everyone as we tried to sort this out.

While I agree with dirtboy about this not being a 2A debate, I have to say that, when reading your other posts, you ascribe to the sheepdog vs. sheep mentality and I think that's what you were alluding to. Unfortunately, it seems that in this area of the country, there may have been too few sheepdogs and that is what permitted this tragedy to happen.

It's perfectly possible. Romans 13 has much to say about governing authorities and being subject to them. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch for them to not interfere when the government is administring justice or fulfilling what they consider is its responsibility.
Romans 13 informs Anabaptist theology.
