Well putting Mel aside for a minute...I am a Christian and I agree with the Jews!!! I find something antisemitic in the gospels. I do. I think the gospels are anti-Jewish. I have from the time I was first exposed to them as a kid in grade school. This is not to say I was taught to be antisemitic by my teachers. Not at all. I never once had an anti-semitic teacher. It was just the New Testament stories especially the preachings of St. Paul seem awfully hard on Jews. And I remember as clear as a bell mentally resisting what was said about the Jews in the New Testament. I disagreed with it and I felt that I sould not disagree with the bible. But I did. Because the New Testament in young mind was mean to the Jews and I did not think it was right.
Many of the Gospels were edited hundreds of years after Jesus lived, with the idea of discrediting the Jews, who were rivals with the Christians.
One of the first things they did was to change the Sabbath to Sunday, as a sop to the Roman Priests whose traditional worship day was Sunday .
How about Christ himself? He offered a sometimes scathing critique of the practices of the Jewish sects of his day. Was he an anti-semite?
