The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
Sorry. When Gibson makes anti-semitic statements, even under the influence, we can judge him to be anti-semitic.
In all the interveiws I have seen of Mel, he strikes me as an good person. True, interviews does not tell all, but you can see in the way he carries himself that he is not one the hollywood snobs.
I think Mel will atone for his sins.
At least he didnt kill someone while drunk.
sounds like young Congressman Kennedy . but...I have not read down the thread yet to see if someone else posted that.
Give the guy a break. Wouldn't you be upset if the Jews had crucified one of your best friends?
And your idea of Christianity is...what? Total righteousness? A total and complete absence of sin? Mel made a mistake. He sinned. Like all Christians, he will forever come up short of the standard set by Jesus. It sounds like he's doing his best to repent to us, and more importantly I pray, to God.
Jhn 8:7 He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Oh you do? Then I apologize for not recognizing your credentials.
He is ashamed he got caught.
You have GOT to be kidding, right?
Seriously, if we have no right to judge, then there should never have been a Nuremberg Trial.
Oh please, how inane. Holding someone to account for their behavior is not acting like you have no flaws.
Would that be the same Jewish community that crucified him every day for more than a year in an outrageous attempt to censure his film the "Passion"? As I recall the various Jewish "communities" tried hard, very hard, to have his movie censured or even stopped from being shown, because, as they assured everyone, "it will renew the Christian persecution of Jews". Never has ANY Hollywood producer had to endure so much venom and verbal visceration from a group of people over the production of a movie than Mel Gibson did, and the assaults began one year BEFORE his movie was completed. So who owes whom an apology?
I'm going to keep screaming this...EVERY JEW IN THE WORLD HAS A TARGET ON THEM NOW...THE LAST THING WE NEED IS A HIGH PROFILE AMERICAN CELEBRITY MAKING STATEMENTS LIKE THIS. Now, everything the left said about THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST is true. EVERYTHING. So in one night, Gibson lost all his credibility. He can go to hell.
What he said about jews under the influence is not very different from what Pat Buchanan would say on any given night after a drink of water.
Gimme a frickin' break. I'd cut a guy a break for this when he's 20 as long he doesn't do it again. Mel is 50 years old. The magic word that could've prevented this whole stupid thing is: TAXI.
HOW DARE YOU....
He said his statements were despicable, is that not clear enough for you? Or should he have torn his garment?
I have never seen such deplorable behavior as I see from some attacking Mel Gibson who admits he has been battling alcoholism throughout his life. He apologized, and I believe him. I surely won't be casting stones anytime soon and I highly doubt all of Gibson's sanctimonious deriders will be either.
Pretty hateful words if that Sheriff's report is accurate....bet the lady Freepers who were fawning over him still would take him...
