The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
.12 BAC isn't drunk enough to justify his behavior. I'll be interested to see if the police had any other toxicology tests on his blood, or urine. I'd say he was under the influence of both alcohol and narcotics to be exhibiting such powerfully stupid behavior. When the Malibu Sheriff releases the audio and video, its going to be a youtube.com instant classic.
I knew someone once who had a BAC of .309 and was functioning, rational and calm. Mel has some real problems to overcome, and just should have closed his martini hole and dealt with it like a man.
He will be forever famous for this incident.
NO I am not stretching. For one thing in interviews where he is asked about the holocaust. Gibson states clearly that he believes it happen. He was asked at one point if he thought 6 million Jews had been killed in the holocaust. He answered "sure". That is hardly agreeing with his father's belief that Jews just up and left Germany and Eastern Europe.
And I sure do not agree with Hutton Gibson's view of the Catholic Church. But Mel Gibson was refering to what his father taught him about the faith. Not what his father believed about the holocaust.
Thank goodness he's a drunk and not a doper. /s
I just don't understand it. I looked up his age. He turned 50 in January. I could see some idiot young Hollywood type tooling around under the influence, but I don't understand a 50 year old man who has gained a certain stature with 7 kids acting like this. Some people never grow up. I don't understand Rush. I don't understand Bill Clinton. How can you attain so much yet be so stupid at the same time.
One way or another, what was in his system that cause his outburst wasn't just a mere chemical. Adversarius imperium, ab quo rapere linguam aut fatuarum aut incircumspectorum, habet. For me I know that possibility in no way exonerates Mel, but, having suffered such attacks I know that what comes out is as much an attack on me, because of the effect it has on friends and family as anything else. To find out your words and actions have been a tool of the Enemy is one of the most terrifying thing you can learn, but the sad thing is it happens to all of us when our guard is down.
Vade retro me Satana!
At the end of his life, continuing into the hereafter, none of us know with certainty who He forgave.
We do know He asked God to forgive the crowd who called for His death (Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.) and the "good thief".
However, one could argue that while He lived,He lectured and chastised those Semites, who claimed to be Jews, but were not,in other words, the scribes and Pharisees. I believe many of them were impostors. Whey were men that said one thing but neither believed what they said nor acted on what they said.
They took advantage of people, they were the hypocrites,"whited sepulchers",liars, and they used the temple to buy and sell and Jesus spent much time and used many words to warn them and others that their actions and deeds were not to be imitated.
I would also argue that based on what I wrote,I doubt that Mel is an antisemitic. I think he may have been railing about men who claim to be Jews but aren't. They claim the name and use it as a cover to avoid having to answer for their own crimes and duplicitous activities as they go on their merry way, doing as they please rather than follow Torah.
You also couldn't wait for Terri Schiavo to die, Hildy. Does that make you a Catholic hater? I'm waiting for an apology for that, but knowing how you are I won't get one.
What part of Islamofacists want to KILL CHRISTIANS Don't you understand?. Same thing, isn't it? I think so. but knowing you , you are the only victim here. Pretty sad. Get off your high horse Miss Hildy.
How thankful were you when someone gave you a break?
That's a disgusting lie and you know better than to bring previous arguments over to another thread.
You sound like you subscribe to the Gospel of Judas. Jesus didn't resist his death at the hands of MEN WHO TOOK IT.
Someone just quoted the Gospel line "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do."
What exactly was Jesus refering to them DOING? Here's my guess: PUTTING HIM TO DEATH.
You deny the power of Christ.
He healed the sick, the lame; He cast out demons; He stopped the storm at sea; He walked on water; He turned water into wine. You don't think He could have smite them ALL in a NY second?
Of course he could. But the fact that you're referring to "them"--doesn't that suggest there was a "them" about to do something?
Look. Some would say no one was responsible for the death of Jesus (except apparently himself, instigating it perhaps with Judas).
Some would say a group of Jews and/or the Romans were responsible, which is historically a fact, but misunderstands (sometimes with malicious intent) the greater truth and revelation of the meaning of his death.
Some say ALL MANKIND (definitely not no one)had a hand in his death through their sinand this view, in the opinion of Christians including myself, is the most accurate way of understanding his death (and is ultimately GOOD NEWS).
Are we going to have a pissing match as to who Muslims want to kill MORE???? Believe me, I'd win. But this thread is about Gibson's statements about JEWS and anti-semetism. WHAT PART OF THAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?
AHA!!! You win the cupie Doll! I was wondering how Teri Schiavo would be worked into this thread and here it is! YOu will NEVER get an apology from me because I think what Michael did was correct. So following that route, you believe what Gibson said was correct, right?
Muslims killed three thousand Americans on 9-11. To them America is "the Great Satan". Their larger battle is with Western Civilization, rooted in a Judeo-Christian heritage.
To some extent, you're conflating Muslim with Arab. I'd say Muslims don't see Israel as the largest threat to their worldview. The biggest affront to them is the civilizational struggle with America.
STARTING with Israel. But what troubles me here is the attempt to try to parse what Gibson said. He talked about JEWS...I'm not going to have a pissing match about who's culture is more in trouble...Because I'd win.
Israel is only in more trouble because they are smaller and weaker. But your statement that radical Muslims are more concerned with annihilating Jews than Americans isn't the case. Are do you want to argue otherwise?
