My theory is that Americans have neither the belief system nor the temperment for such a sisyphean sport as soccer. We are a society of doers, achievers, and builders. Our country is dynamic, constantly growing, and becoming ever bigger, richer, and stronger. We do not subscribe to a zero sum mentality. We do not labor for the sake of laboring. And we like our sports teams to score.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, although I think it actually goes in a self-feeding cycle. We stink at the activity, because there is no widespread interest...but when there actually is some interest, we get treated to a "best ever" US team that compiles a "very impressive" 0-for-3 record, with exactly one point scored. Even those who were willing to give it a chance, like Rome, couldn't help but be turned off after that. Those like me, who had already written it off to begin with, have seen our arguments proven right, only to be berated and have our sexuality and "level of patriotism" questioned, and the pictures of our children posted on threads to be used for cheap shots.
The original non-sequitur is "soccer is gay." That's the comment that spawns the others. You do see that, don't you?
Soccer is socialist...too much power for the officials.
If I recall, there are "ties" NFL football (just only one every few years)...actually soccer should do what the NHL did and hold one sudden death OT and then a shootout.
Personally, I have played soccer my whole life (still do) and coach youth teams, however, I have not watched one major league soccer game from start to finish. Excluding the world cup, soccer is much better played than watched.
That is so funny, yet comments such as "soccer is gay," "soccer is un-American," "soccer is socialist," "soccer is boring," etc. are perfectly acceptable and not subject to challenge, using a hybrid form of Coulter's Doctrine of Infallibilty.
You are a sickening low life scumbag to resort, multiple times, to such scummy behavior.
Agree with that. An enormously successful World Cup for the US is making it out of Group play. I have not been a fan of soccer at all but I've enjoyed watching the World Cup. Some of these jokers are incredibly talented. Someone posted earlier on the thread that most of the goals are "lucky" or "accidents". Some are but a lot are pure skill. Just an example of skill, take a look at this Google video of Ronaldhino in this Nike commercial. If you think what Tiger Woods did in juggling the golf ball with a wedge, this will amaze you:
C'mon, soccer is an excellent sport to get our 3-6 year old children interested in sports and team-building excercises until they grow up enough to handle ports that require some skills and training, like baseball and lacrosse.
Take these out of soccer, and the S-I-G argument falls away. Soccer would still be boring, but at least no one could say it was gay.
Clearly, your reading and debate skills are insufficient for FR. You really should go home now, little boy.
Oh, and take your metric football with you!
Oh knock it off with the inane "posting pictures of my protected child nonsense" since it was found on the public JRios1968 Freeper homepage on this very site. I have plenty of information loaded on my homepage, and I'm certainly wise enough not to place pictures of my family there.
You're making continuous attacks and insultingly calling people "fat and gay" based upon the sports they play or watch. That is outrageous.

How did I know I would find you three in here?
Because you are wise, oh grasshopper!
Because we're gay?
And while we are on the subject of "American" sports, why don't you check the pitching roster for my Chicago White Sox?
and fat?
I've never been more frustrated at the wussification that was on display during the NED/PGL game.
I think if you fake your injury and cant show either a large contusion or an open would, its red card and the coach gets a warning.
Bunch of whimps.
