I do. Where the heck do they position Taylor? He doesn't fit into a ready-made MAJOR concert category beyond the AI tour. And probably regional tours. How would he do on a worldwide tour? I don't think he's maleable. Nor marketable long-term. I don't think his stressed-out whiskey voice will last. I know it won't improve.
After the competitiveness and emotional excess of the voting situation, I think Taylor will cool quickly leaving a less-than major fan base. Maybe I'm wrong. But after all the hooplah the AI producers want a major star.
Carrie sure did them proud last night. Her voice and performance have improved greatly since AI and she fits into a very popular niche. She was managed in one short year into a major talent. She has the gorgeous bone structure that will keep her beautiful for decades. She's become an incredibly valuable "property." What's not to love from a business perspective? From an AI reputation standpoint?
Well, I have to disagree with you. Maybe because I am near to his hometown I see things differently. This area has been rabid with Soul Patrollers for several weeks now. When he came to B'ham for his homecoming there were over 16,000 in the middle of the mall to see him perform and it was chaos. It wasn't just little old ladies either. All ages, all races and they were screaming. Several of my friends that went said it was overwhelming how people were responding to him. I think there are many out there who are tired of the cookie cutter pop icons, like Brittany Spears, Jessica Simpson, etc. and although country is pretty popular, I see that popularity waning in recent years, because it has become the same old same old. Maybe people just want something different. That's how they should market him. of course this is jmho. :)
