I think Taylor's best performance of the season was This Gun For Hire. So hot it sizzled.

"Dancing In The Dark." Springsteen. 1984. Born In The U.S.A.

You young whipperschnapper.

Thank you for all of your hard work, and especially for your wonderful posts of the judges commentary. I really appreciated them.

As little as I have seen of AI over the last few years...it sure seems like they got it together this year.

WHEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Just finished watching the (excellent! -- a little to my surprise) show, and saw that Tay-Tay did it! Woohoo Soul Patrol indeed! I actually got all teary-eyed, believe it or not! Soooooo delightful to see someone with such talent, class, and yes, SOUL, win this thing! America got it right, indeed! Whoopee!!! LOL!

He opened the show singing "Over the Rainbow" on the floor ala McPhee! It was hilarious!

Both Beck and Geraldo Rivera can't stand Katharine. I can understand if she's not your cup of tea, but I don't understand the venom. It's as if they thought she was totally talentless like Ashlee Simpson or Hilary Duff or something.

I'm sorry, but Kat is the WORST excuse for a top two finalist since.....there hasn't been one.

Apparently, you don't remember Justin Guarini.

and how much money changed hands to give him a platform on Idol.

I recall hearing that the week after Berry Manilow was on the show, his album sales went through the roof.

The has beens (Rod Stewart) have been lining up ever since. Truth be told, one 30 second spot probably covered Prince's costs.

Tonight it became apparent to me that Paris is soooo much better the performer and singer than Kat.

Yeah, wasn't that sad?

That was sweet!! Taylor's dad had such a very serious expression, tears streaking his face ... deep emotions there, for sure. Looks like Taylor comes from a fine family. BTW, was that his brother they kept showing close to the parents? Kind of chunky, blond with a ponytail (I think)?

Not a Meatloaf song, but it had the Meatloaf sound. It was "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," written and produced by Jim Steinman for Celine Dion.

Steinman songs fuse pop, rock, and Broadway theater of the mind. Some people hate it, I like most of it. I think "It's All Coming Back..." is too durn long.

I wasn't watching Meat and Kat, I was on the road listening on a Walkman with TV sound. Meat sounded awful.

Jim Steinman and Meatloaf invented the "Meatloaf sound," collaborating brilliantly on "Bat Out of Hell."

According to several sources, Meat Loaf and Steinman have a love-hate relationship. They make magic when they work together, but don't seem to like sharing credit for it.

That's an insult. Those songs might sound like Broadway, but his ear always aspires to Opera...just like Meatloaf's voice.

Multi-Platinum Rockers Live and American Idol Fan Favorite Chris Daughtry Give Surprise Performance
May 24, 09:01 PM

LOS ANGELES, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Live from the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. the American Idol 5 season finale blew fans away with a surprise collaboration between the multi-Platinum rock band Live and Idol fan favorite Chris Daughtry. As a huge fan of Live, Daughtry asked the band to join him on stage for the season finale in a surprise performance of Live's current single "Mystery" from their new album Songs From Black Mountain. Available now digitally for download, Songs From Black Mountain will hit stores June 6th.

American Idol viewers may remember the controversy earlier in the season when Daughtry performed a strikingly similar rendition of Live's 2001 cover of the Johnny Cash classic "I Walk the Line." As the criticism grew, Live lead singer Ed Kowalczyk praised Daughtry saying, "I thought he did a great job with the song. There's no doubt he's a talented performer and I hope he goes far." Lending further support, Kowalczyk contacted Daughtry directly and a mentorship was born.

Live's illustrious career has seen the band sell more than 20 million records. In their 15 years together they have had two Billboard Top 200 #1 albums -- Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi. Five #1 singles including, "I Alone," "Lightning Crashes" and "Selling the Drama" as well as nine Top 10 singles.

Wrapping up a U.S. tour this month, Live will begin a headline tour of Europe in June followed by a tour of the U.S. and Canada in July with dates to be announced shortly.

Meat Loaf isn't Freddie Mercury. IMHO, he can't pull off opera, and neither can Bonnie Tyler or Celine Dion. Sorry if you think it's an insult, because I don't have a problem with Broadway done right.

Add me to the Clay brigade, too! I saw the show with no sound at a local restaurant right after a school event, but he looked fantastic! Very British invasion. Now watching the tape...

Oh yeah... CONGRATULATIONS, TAYLOR! I rooted for him all the way!

I think Daughtry has the brightest future of all of this year's contestants. The industry is in sore need of legitimate male rock vocalists who aren't faceless.
