America needs a Taylor Hicks in all his crazy dancing, purple jacket wearing, harmonica playing, soul singing glory.
Bingo! One look at the new-music celebs tonight (Blige/Braxton) and their lack of class and artistry only served to highlight the point. America longs to return to its musical roots. The old-schoolers Jarreau and Warwick have always been in tune with that, hence their generous sharing of the spotlight tonight with their Idol co-singers. Taylor, in a joyful, uninhibited way reflects and represents that longing and acts it out on stage, providing the catharsis we all need. Go Tay-Tay!

Good post on Simon. (BTW...I also enjoyed your review of last nights show)
I've been watching the TV Guide Channel "repeat" of the Pre-Idol show tonight. (Yes...I'm just a sick twisted freak)
It's been pretty good. If I wasn't working I would have watched it earlier.
Anyway, they interviewed Simon and Randy and Simon said "I expected Taylor to be in the final but Katharine was a surprise." Randy pointed out that she was in the bottom several times. (Looks like Simon's changed his tune since Vegas!)
My guess is that they (like a lot of others) were figuring a Taylor/Chris final. Now that would have been a close one.
BTW...did you notice that Seacrest did not mention how CLOSE it was tonight??

Taylor and Braxton could have been a great duet, if her lips matched the singing. I sure would like to know what was going on with that song. Oh and had she not tried to make him put his hand on her waist.

As a season-long lurker, I want to really thank you for putting up this thread. (sorry, but I can't walk and chew gum at the same time, so posting and watching is out of the question). You did a great job. Loved the tribute to Texasflower. She was a wonderful FReeper, and you have honored her memory greatly. Bless you.

Seriesly, I can't think of anyone that I would rather see as POTUS...
His work this last two weeks on the Senate floor has been a masterpiece...even though his OWN majority leader is against him.
I would even break my own promise to myself NOT to contribute to the National Republican Party..if I knew he was running.

It feels like we are graduating! LOL! It does! It's like the last day of school and we're signing each other's yearbooks.

Is it wrong of me to be disappointed they didn't show the McParents right after Taylor was announced the winner? I was wondering about that, too.

Yeah, Braxton disappointed me a lot. Taylor started off so great and I thought she would come out and nail it too. But like Blige did with Elliot she just drew all the attention on herself by her over the top wierdness.
I guess the modern stars in our modern culture are all about "me" and bumping and grinding. The so-called amateur, karaoke, wedding singing Idols outshone the new-music celbs in both performance and class. Hail the revolution!

It was a disaster! I don't listen to top 40 but I know that Toni Braxton had a good run a few years back. She was just awful tonight.
Do you know if the contestants get to choose who they sing with?
To: retrokitten
We have to get Jonny to come in, but I think our husbands would be mega-jealous. ;-) "Dadgone! Dang whole neighborhood is turning into Melrose Place, man."

Elliott sang U2's "One" with Mary J. Blige--or to be more accurate, Elliott sang the beginning of the song, then that camera hog MJB came in and sang the rest, barely acknowledging Elliott.
Then she walked off the stage as soon as the song was over, leaving Elliott standing there alone. That was extremely rude.

BTW...did you notice that Seacrest did not mention how CLOSE it was tonight?? You're right! Must have been a landside. I think they fudged the numbers last week, just to make it seem close.

The so-called amateur, karaoke, wedding singing Idols outshone the new-music celbs in both performance and class. Hail the revolution! I agree ans almost said the same thing earlier. The idols outshone certain celebs. I hope that wasn't lost on AI or the judges.
