Bootless, a kindred spirit. You knew WPLJ from Tony Pig and Pat St. John. WNEW was harder rock at the time. Can't remember the Jazz station.

I remember hearing Magic by Pilot at Sandy Hook, NJ.

Do you recall when an FM station began playing Beatles 24/7 for about a year...think it was WYNY.

:-) I remembered on the way home that Elton John/Sedaka was Bad Blood, not Bad Love.

I do remember WNEW, too, and yes, that had more of an edge than PLJ. The jazz station had "RV" in its call letters.

You saw Pilot in person? Whoooo! We had Focus (playing Hocus Pocus - remember that?) at our high school in their One Hit Wonder year. And just today, I heard Ace's "How Long" twice in one day, after umpteen years. Weird.

Speaking of NY radio, do you remember a talk show host on, I think, WHYN, self-destructing on the air one night in 1970 or 71? His show was probably going downhill, and he left it to the callers whether he should stay or go. (Kind of a Michael Savage precusor in that regard) He was gone the next night. I think his show was 10pm - 1 am.
