SMOKING three cannabis joints will cause you to inhale the same amount of toxic chemicals as a whole packet of cigarettes, according to research published in France today.
Cannabis smoke contains seven times more tar and carbon monoxide, the French National Consumers' Institute concluded in research published in the April edition of its monthly magazine.
The institute tested regular Marlboro cigarettes alongside 280 specially rolled joints of cannabis leaves and resin in an artificial smoking machine.
The tests examined the content of the smoke for tar and carbon monoxide, as well as for the toxic chemicals nicotine, benzene and toluene.
"Cannabis smoke contains seven times more tar and carbon monoxide than tobacco smoke," the institute's magazine says.
Someone smoking a joint of cannabis resin rolled with tobacco will inhale twice the amount of benzene and three times as much toluene as if they were smoking a regular cigarette, the study says.
Smokers of pure cannabis leaves will also inhale more of these chemicals than from a normal cigarette, though the amount varies depending on the quantities.
"Smoking three joints every day which is becoming frequent makes you run the same risks of cancer or cardio-vascular diseases as smoking a packet of cigarettes," the magazine says.
Cannabis is "by far" the most popular illicit drug in France, it says. The number of cigarette smokers and people drinking alcohol fell in 2005, while the number of cannabis users has increased in France in the past five years.
He knows. He's transparent.
You're responsible for my misspelled word.
There, how do you like it?
Ah, but if the pilots were loaded they would fly better. And see better, thanks to the glaucoma that the pot would cure. Think of the lives that would save!
Lemme guess. The Nazi pot laws prevented you from obtaining the enhanced cognitive abilities dope smoking brings?
No, the same reason you misspelled a word.
Someone else's fault. Yours.
I guess it's kind of hard to sue the Columbian Cartel. But makes you wonder if pot ever is legalized, how long would it take to lure in players like RJ Reynolds with high profits, followed by the inevitable pounce by hungry attorney firms?
A pothead can get high for about 4-5 days with a quarter bag, 28 grams. A quarter bag will roll about 12-18 joints. And they are not big joints.
Or you can say, a pothead typically smokes half a joint to get high. A high lasts 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Your math is a bit off. Your estimate is at least twice too high.
I dunno. I thought you might be able to tell me...
The man who piloted a small plane that crashed near Fresno last year, killing himself and two others, had a significant amount of marijuana in his system at the time, according to a coroner's report.
Karl Esposti, 50, of Windsor, was flying his Cessna T-210L Centurion above the farming town of Tranquillity on April 7 when the plane encountered bad weather and crashed in a wheat field, authorities said.
Esposti, a well-known local car dealer, was killed, along with wine executive Tom Hobart, 58, of Healdsburg, and vineyard owner Kieran "K.C." Burke, 49, of Geyserville. The three departed from Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport and were on their way to Scottsdale, Ariz., for a golf weekend.
The National Transportation Safety Board's final crash report is awaiting approval by its five-member board, which will issue a probable cause.
Toxicology reports show Esposti had 293 nanograms per milliliter of marijuana metabolites in his urine. Pilots who are detected with more than 15 nanograms risk having their license revoked or suspended, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.
It is unclear exactly when he took the drug and whether he was impaired at the time of the crash because marijuana can stay in the body for long periods of time.
However, one expert said the amount of marijuana found in Esposti's body suggests either that he was a chronic user or had smoked it within hours of the fatal flight.
"How do you attain that number in the urine? It's only through active smoking on a daily basis," said Dr. Ernest D. Lykissa, a forensic toxicologist with Houston-based ExperTox Inc.
You said, "If I want to come home from a long day's work & get drunk, high, eat candy - or just lay on the couch & watch TV - who's business is it to anyone else?" You implied that people come home, do drugs, and cause no problem for the rest of society, so why not legalize drugs.
Now you've changed the argument and acknowledge that people will not do drugs at home. You now ask why it is illegal for those who act responsibly.
The answer is that the U.S. Constitution does not allow for one set of laws for reponsible people and one set of laws for irresponsible people. Too bad the irresponsible drug users ruined it for you.
"You say if pot is legalized you know for a fact that twice as many teenagers will smoke it?"
I asked you what if. What is your answer to my question as asked?
You can get high off of one hit from the stuff that is around today.
The paramedics should have administered marijuana to the crash victims to cure them of their injuries.
"Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side"
You're the one who claimed to be the expert on Charlie Sheen, not me.
You said it was pot that ruined his brain, remember?
And how do you know that the weather didn't cause the plane crash and the fact that the pilot has smoked marijuana in the past few days had nothing to do with the crash?
Planes crash all the time due to bad weather.
Are you high on drugs or something? What part of my replies said that people will not do drugs at home?
I have acknowledged that there will always be people that don't act responsibly.
The answer is that the U.S. Constitution does not allow for one set of laws for reponsible people and one set of laws for irresponsible people. Too bad the irresponsible drug users ruined it for you.
Then I guess by your own argument - you believe that alcohol should be illegal too - since there are plenty of irresponsible drinkers that ruin it for responsible ones?
Why should she answer your questions?
You never answer anyone else's questions.
Hem, haw, dodge, obfuscate, mis-direct, all part of your tactics.
Smoking marijuana lowers the eye pressure. But the effect of smoking marijuana lasts only about two hours or so. Therefore, the marijuana patient must smoke every two hours or so to maintain a low intraocular pressure. Doing the math, this would require 12 joints. Yes, if it takes half a joint to accomplish the effect, then the glaucoma patient would require 12 half-joints or 6 full joints per day, every day.
But, this depends on the amount of THC in the marijuana and the amount of marijuana per joint. And I am not aware of one single study which calculates how much of either is necessary.
With a patient's eyesight at stake, I don't understand why people even consider this type of treatment.
What, in fact, I said was "It does wonders for trhe brain".
I know another heavy pot smoker who is paranoid, too.
