Religious people have a long history of quoting scripture to prove scientific ideas are wrong. It is a misuse of the Bible, and it is counterproductive. It turns people away from the Bible.

I think it's more like this:

Religious people have a long history of quoting scripture to prove SINFUL LIVING are wrong. It is a CORRECT use of the Bible, and it is counterproductive. It turns people away from SIN and to the Savior!

Or not; 'cause they like what they're doing to much to worry about their soul.

If you stick to using the Bible as a source of moral instruction, I have no objetion. That's how I read it.

But then you wouldn't be posting on science threads unless you thought the Bible is also an authority on natural history.

It on this point that religious people are counterproductive. You actually harm your cause.
