Is this entire thread going to become a casting call for the latest Conservative Drama Queens?

Absolutely stupid decision by Bush. Bad for US security, bad for the Republicans, bad for Bush. If this sale goes through and any terrorist action is ever associated with any transaction through these ports, Bush will deserve the impeachment the kooks are calling for.

I don't understand why he's risking the rest of his political life on this issue. If Congress overrides the veto then he's toast.

Go ahead and veto, I hope we override it.

Story breaking on Drudge too....not much news at present. Apparently, Pres. Bush issued his statement from Air Force One.

He signed the odious campaign finance reform bill and every lousy spending bill that has been passed in his five years on the job. But he's going to veto this one? Maybe he really is as stupid as his detractors have been saying all these years. Oh well...at least it gives the Republicans a chance to distance themselves from an unpopular president before the fall elections.

Then our Congress and Senate had better over ride it.

Bush called the pool back at about 2.30 to issue a very strong defense of port deal... MORE... On port deal he said he would veto any legislation to hold up deal and warned the united states was sending "mixed signals" by going after a company from the middle east when nothing was said when a british company was in charge. Lawmakers, he said, must "step up and explain why a middle eastern company is held to a different standard." Bush, sporting the air force one fight jacket and a tie, was very forceful when he delivered the statement... MORE...

If I was a Democrat, I'd challenge the veto threat. Bush hasn't vetoed one yet.

No good will come of this. This whole issue will blow up right in the White House's kisser...unless it slowly backs away from it as they did with the Meirs nomination.

Thoughts?

The thing is, even if Bush vetoed it, the veto probably would end up being overturned in the courts.

Oy oy oy...he owes someone big time...I don't care if it's squeaky clean RIGHT NOW...this opens up a whole can a worms that is just not necessary. And it's not what our side needs right now going into mid-term elections. This might be the thing that brings him down...and I'll be right there fighting him...

You mean he*s actually got a pen to veto things with? Who knew? < / sarcasm >

How can we afford to keep a man who swore an oath to protect Americans and yet leaves our borders open, and now wants to turn our ports over to our KNOWN enemy?

So...

G.W. threw down a gauntlet of challenge. Whatever could happen next?

A bipartisan group of bureaucrats from Federal to State-level whip up enough public support to get together to tell an Arab terror-sponsor to go get knotted? Is that about right?

Am I the only one to see the country being brought together in an "us and them" scenario?? (And about freakin' time!). Fercryinoutloud, even the Kos Kidz are up in arms about this port business!

Big picture time, people. The prez has plenty of 'face' to spare if it will get Dems off the fence and moderates (aka candya$$es) start thinking in terms of "No Compromise with THE ENEMY" in the war on terror.

It's well worth the investment to have America united in the War on Terror.

Go George!

I agree with President Bush on this one. About time that he used the veto pen.

There's no reason for us to be paranoid about this issue. Just visit Dubai yourself and you'll be impressed.
