How would you feel if, in the aftermath of 9/11, the U.S. government had decided to contract out airport security to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the country where most of the operational planning and financing of the attacks occurred? My guess is you, like most Americans, would think it a lunatic idea, one that could clear the way for still more terror in this country. You probably would want to know who on earth approved such a plan -- and be determined to prevent it from happening.

No problem, BTW when are you going to take up a collection to make an altar to worship at Frank Gaffney. Dane you're absolutely right on this one, Frank Gaffney wrote a song 34 years ago called the "Uneasiest of Riders" poking fun of Republicans. He's nothing but a Hollywood stooge.

>>>>Actually Bush has stated many times there is an immigration problem and wants to fix it ...Talk is cheap. Bush has been talking about immigration reform since before taking office in 2001. What has he done about it for the five years he's been POTUS? NOTHING! What does he intend on doing in the next three years? NOTHING! Nothing to solve the problem that is. Bush supports the open borders policy we have today, and the cheap labor it brings his bigwig GOP business donors. Picking off some Hispanic voters is another plus from the Bush book of political pandering.

Well -- gonna tell me how brilliant a "security" job the President's done at the Mexican border since 9/11?

The Al Qaeda Training Manual discovered in the UK describes recruiting seaport workers as making good recruits:
------ "TWELFTH LESSON: ESPIONAGE "
Information needed through covert means: Information needed to be gathered through covert means
is of only two types:
First: Information about government personnel, officers, important personalities, and all matters related to those (residence, work place, times of leaving and returning, wives and children, places visited)
Second: Information about strategic buildings, important establishments, and military bases.
Examples are important ministries such as those of Defense and Internal Security, airports, seaports, land border points, embassies, and radio and TV stations.
---
Candidates for Recruitment Are:
1. Smugglers
2. Those seeking political asylum
3. Adventurers
4. Workers at coffee shops, restaurants, and hotels
5. People in need
6. Employees at borders, airports, and seaports

and if he is mistakenly under the impression that port operations are (or, even worse, should be) "professionalized" by the federal government taking charge of all aspects, as they have with airport security. A)I was pointing out his credentials to point out he isn't some armchair pundit
B)I already defended why the port takeover should not happen
C)Despite problems with the TSA, the goverment is still in a better position too ensure the credentials of workers, than private security.
D) You asserted that an opinion of Gaffeny is mistaken. Opinions can be bad ideas, but unless there is an assertion of fact they cannot be mistaken.
E)Nobody on this board has yet to sufficently explain exactly what P&O does, and why it presents 0% risk too national security.
F) I think most people would agree that we should not be pumping more money into the coffers of the UAE. This reason is more than enough for me.

No, because it does not hurt my ego to say that I truly do not know everything that Bush has done regarding border security.
A clue? You don't either, and you never will.

In other words, DPW would be responsible for keeping cargo from getting stolen, keeping port property from getting stolen or damaged, and hiring rent-a-cops to support that goal.
If he understands that, then he is either negligently or purposefully seeking to conflate basic property security for screening/inspecting cargo for contraband. I don't think he's in the habit of making stupid misstatements; which means that his misstatement is an intelligent misstatement intended to accomplish a specific purpose.

"DPW would not be responsible for cargo screening, which is performed by the Department of Homeland Security, but the port operator is responsible for securing cargo coming in and out of the port, the port facility itself and the hiring of security personnel." Well of course they are responsible for "securing" the cargo. How are they going to load it and unload it and of course they are going to take care of their facility, what are they going to do let it deterioriate.
BTW, I find it interesting you are posting from Fox News which recently had a share bought out by a saudi shiek.
Could there be some jealously going on that the UAE is progressing and the house of saud is deteriorating.

Please prove (with facts) that Bush has done nothing about immigration reform. You make it too easy. 20 million+ illegals in the country while only three employers were fined last year for hiring them. Even Bill Clinton's record was better than that.

Exactly. Same employees as today, just the profits going to different shareholders.

That is a result, not proof that Bush has done nothing.
That is like saying if a fisherman comes home with nothing, that alone is proof that he never went fishing.
