But they also say that life couldn't have happened naturally. If life is inevitable it must be ID. If life is impossible it must be ID. Seems like an iron-clad argument.

It sounds to me like 'fine tuned' so that life is inevitable but couldn't have happened naturally (knowable by science) is a contradiction. It's no surprise that IDists contradict each other. Apparently, they aren't aware they do.

Being fair, the fine tuners and special creationists are not necessarily the same people.

My point is to make sure the creationists are aware that "scientific" ID presents a history of the universe that is indistinguishable from mainstream science.

When the typical ID supporter says he wants evolution criticized, he is not thinking of teaching the anthropic principle. He is hoping that someone will speak against common descent.

But the current crop of IDers does not oppose common descent.
