not necessarily. A lot of "them" don't get "welcomed" so to speak (faggot is a common word). In fact "gay" has become a slang word (as an adjective) akin to stupid. Gayness doesn't belong in any school.
I grew up in the 1980s in eastern Massachusetts, and we used the word "gay" to mean, more or less, "lame."
