I can't think of many FReepers who've been subjected to ridicule for a simple mistake. Certainly there are instances where someone jumps on a typo, but that kind of error doesn't lead to extensive discussion. The only time I've seen folks go after a typo is when the typo itself happened to be *funny*, or triggered a bunch of puns. Like earlier in this thread when someone typed "viscous" (a word meaning "thick and sticky") when they actually meant "vicious" (cruel). The mental image of a Freeper being called "thick and sticky" was too funny to let pass without some jokes.
Where ridicule is needed is cases where someone defends the indefensible, or continues asserting things that are beyond mere ignorance.
Right -- when someone actually *was* behaving in a ridiculous manner, and we were pointing it out.

I one typed viscous in a college paper that was read in class. The response was vicious.

(Great is the power of steady misrepresentation.)

I'm guilty of jumping on "tenants of evolution." I don't know why, but that one always gets me. And good ol' goodseedhomeschool's typos were always good - esp since they weren't so much typos but rather just piss poor grammar and misspellings. In light of the fact that her whole raison d'etre was homeschooling, I felt the need to help her (and her lovely son) out as best as I could from afar. Speaking of her... nah, I won't go there... *coughfullcourtcough*... ahem.
