PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old single father whose struggle raising his toddler daughter was featured in People magazine has been killed in Philadelphia.
Terrell Pough was shot in the head on his way home from work Thursday night and later died at Temple University Hospital, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Police said they have no suspects but do have a possible lead. No further details of the slaying were released.
The August issue of People profiled Pough, who worked as the night manger at a local restaurant while attending school full-time and raising his daughter, Diamond, who will be 2 on Nov. 27.
"She's what I work for, what I live for, why I wake up," he told People. "She's everything."
Diamond, who had full-custody of his daughter, had planned to work in construction after graduating next June.
"If something ever happens to me, no one can ever tell her that her dad didn't take care of her," he told People.
Post the post Howlin is talking about. Having trouble finding it?
Howlin is a liar, I never said anything about Harriett Miers.
Howlin is lying. You don't support lying do you, or maybe you do.
No I am saying you don't know the circumstances of this young man's life that you should be attacking him. He did NOT act like the vast majority of the fathers of these children but rather like a responsible person. Why? Why was he different? How did he wind up different from the less responsible? Why didn't he feel justified in letting the taxpayer pick up the tab for his mistake? These are the really interesting questions completely ignored by the self righteous.
I don't care what you know or don't know about OOW births but was speaking of this young man's story.
The article in "People" went to great lengths to demonstrate just how difficult it was for this young man and his little daughter. How hard he had to work, how early he had to get up, how little free time he had, etc., so I don't think most teens would, necessarily, be encouraged to have children based on his example.
By all accounts he seemed an exemplary young man. I am so sorry some criminal took his life.
Actually, that was sent to me in Freepmail.
See, I get them, too!
Admit you made a mistake or quit lying about what I said about Harriett Miers. I never said anything about her.
Stop lying.
FOR THE READING IMPAIRED: I'm not going back through your posts; I said you said it and I stand by it.
Being called a liar by you is kind of like being called honest by Bill Clinton.
I'm not arguing about anything. I want to know how you came to the conclusion that through the People article the slain father 'bragged' about his sins (post #266)...particularly since you have repeatedly stressed the fact that YOU have NOT READ the People article.
Get over losing the Harriett Miers debate...I cannot even belive you came on this thread and spewed that garbage...it speaks volumes about how you are. Some people cower to you but you do not intimidate me.
Once again, post the comment or stop lying.
No, I don't. So stop making the accusation, OK?
Thanks for summarizing what the article was about. From it, I didn't get the impression that the father was 'bragging' about his sins.
He freely spews out the accusation, while at the same time admitting that he doesn't have a clue as to whether or not it's true.
All in the name of morality, too.......
I didn't lose any Harriet Miers debate.
In fact, I was right; you all showed your true colors and now there's a backlash against you and your ilk in the Republican Party.
You are so high school U.S.A.
Ya, right...but know this, I did not even participate in any of the debates, so quit saying I did. You are lying when you attribute that comment to me. I never said it.
Stop lying.
This young man did not commit murder for which he will have to take the consequences. Tookie may have turned his life around (although perhaps not) and if he did, good for him. That does not let him out of the consequences of his sin.
This young man had a child out of wedlock. He was dealing with the consequences in a way that he hoped would break the cycle. He did not ask to be let off of the consequences of his mistake like many many others who abandon their children to their girlfriends or worse, the state. He was, apparently, killed in that process. If more information comes out that he was not what he appeared to be, then fine. Until then, I refuse to condemn this man.
To say appreciation for what this young man was trying to accomplish is the same as jumping on the Tookie Bandwagon is disingenuous at best. I do not want to back you into a corner on this because I know it is hard to back down. But I can not in good conscience let that comparison stand.
One more thing: To do what this man was trying to do, is quintessentially American. To rise above one's circumstances, to do the best with what you have, to take the second chances that life offers you. That, in my mind, is part of what it means to be conservative. If you believe conservative is never making a mistake, never appreciating those who have less and what they must overcome, never accepting anything but perfection, well...then quite honestly I don't qualify.
Getting that "secret" Freepmail again, I see.
One only needs to read THIS thread to see the beating you've taken; nobody is calling me deranged.
but this person pointed out that you had your head handed to you on the Harriett threads...
Actually, I did not; after it became apparent that you all intended to smear that good woman, I just ignored you all, as did most of FR.
Please know my comparison to Tookie was in jest. I agree with most of what you said.
One only needs to read the Harriett threads to see what a beaten you took and in the end lost with another nominee being names. Gosh, you are still not over it...that is fine, that is your problem, but STOP trying to drag me into it.
I never said anything about Harriett, you are a liar.
