Sure, there's some of that occuring here. I'm sorry for you that your upbringing did not go a little further to socialize you. But its good that as an adult you are learning to recognize sociability when you see it. Now, having gotten that far, it is time for you to quit imagining your self as above it all, and, frankly, resenting others socializing normally. You should keep in mind that it is not our fault that you are inept in that regard.
As for concern and compassion about this American kid, I think it is out of reach for someone such as yourself right now......since it requires a sort of espirit de corps, which is developed in a social way. Thats another way of telling you I understand your lack of compassion and concern.......I don't necessarily think you're evil, just lacking basic social skills and trapped in blaming others for it.
