ARUBA Prime Minister Nelson Oduber has taken legal proceedings against Jossy Mansur, Chief Editor of Diario and the morning paper itself. Oduber demands rectification of two comments about Oduber that Mansur had published in the Diario last week.
Oduber is of the opinion that the newspaper had dragged him too much through the mire. Mansur made statements that portrait Oduber as the most corrupt prime minister that Aruba ever had. The case comes up in court this coming Monday at 15:00.
Justice-minister Rudy Croes Oduber and Lamers didnt win
ARUBA Justice-minister Rudy Croes (MEP) is of the opinion that the verdict of the Common Court of Justice of the Neth.Antilles and Aruba regarding the registration of a lesbian married couple in the Aruban register is not an advantage for the women. They will have to take new legal proceedings in order to be registered as married. The Dutch government indicated that it has been determined that a Dutch marriage license between persons of the same sex is also valid in the Neth.Antilles and Aruba. The Hague expects Aruba to honor the verdict.
Despite the fact that the Court has confirmed the verdict in the Court of First Instance and a great deal of the claims of the couple is consented because of this, minister Croes interprets it different: It has been determined that the marriage license is subject to be registered in the register of births, deaths, and marriages; thats all. But it doesnt help the couple. As regards contents, it cannot be done, because it is legally impossible.
According to Croes, the specification of the Courts decision has given the misconception that the couple had won the case. But thats not true, says the minister.
He explained that the Court has made the registration of the civil state of Oduber and Lamers possible in the register, but they need to follow a new procedure for this.
Don't look now...but I think that island is about to implode!
