OT but sort of related to the Natalee discussion...

Did anyone see the FR article posted about the new method many women in South Africa are using to prevent rape? I can't find it anywhere and wonder if it was pulled. Maybe it was a hoax?

It involved a device to be...um... 'inserted' , which would trigger fish hook-type prongs if a rapist attempted penetration, allowing the woman time to escape.
The device could only be removed surgically.
I wanted to post a link here, but cannot find it.

I said the rumor might be floated by A.G. just to smear him. That's one possibility. Somehow, I don't think CC wants to leave his business and Aruba, so I doubt that he would have given testimony, but the gov't may not like the interview he gave on tube (especially the parts not broadcast where nobody but Fox knows what he said) or what he may have told H/T's or our feds on the island.

They do care about them. They need that inner city N.O. vote that gets bussed around to vote umpteen times to insure their next election. Without those people, they might be looking for some other line of work and I think those are the people most likely not to return. Welfare checks are delivered anywhere; if they don't have flood insurance, even if they owned their home, it will not be rebuilt; if the family is with them, why go back?

Sounds like a cleaver little device, but it must detach when it fires or the quick escape would not work. Probably could make something out of a plastic water bottle and some razor blades.

Thank you, theophilusscribe. Been trying to convince Mr. h of the necessity of this for some time in terms of evacuation due of terrorist activities, but clearly a natural disaster is getting his attention and we'll be putting ourselves in readiness mode for whatever contingency might arise. You never know what you or your neighbor might need that could make all the difference in the world. Your links are a tremendous help!

Odd that there is NO INFORMATION out here about the effect the K's testimony/answers might have on the decision to hold or release JVDS. Not a peep!

Unfortunately, it is becoming clear that the Aruban authorities are going to detain JVDS and the Kalpoes for another month and then release them. Probably a twisted defense will be that they served several months in jail already. The fact that the Aruban authorities won't actually charge JVDS or the Kalpoes with anything after three months must mean that they have little or no evidence.

And to be honest, only a dimwitted fool believed that OJ was innocent, but everyone knew that he would never be found guilty of murder. The same for JVDS and the Kalpoes - the judge has to look at what is likely flimsy evidence and will have to release them DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT IS CLEAR THAT THESE PSYCHOS RAPED AND MURDERED NH.

Carlo said prosecutors introduced two allegations of a "sexual nature" against van der Sloot. He declined to provide details on the allegations, but insisted they were not new.

I wonder if the Prosecutor is going the "tapes" part of the case to hold him the extra 30 days. That would be somewhat new items to the judge and need all of them to be in court testify about.

And then there was video, as reported by justche below, of the K2 brothers, trying at this late date to cover their faces, after months of their faces appearing everywhere in the news and on the net. These two items seem to me to be more that coincidental. Maybe something so damaging to the K2's came out in the hearing that they now feel compelled to hide their faces. Didn't JVDS cover his face yesterday, too, as he got out of the police vehicle?

You are probably correct, but I will be surprised if the three go unpunished for weeks / months. Some of Natalee's close family and friends and other case followers will likely haunt JVDS and the Kalpoes until justice is served. I can't picture Beth returning home to Alabama and dropping this. I suspect she believes justice for Natalee is more important than living a comfortable 30 or 40 more years in Alabama. What good parent would not?

maybe because the girls being abused by them on tape are genuine "aruban" girls?....and to postulate further, maybe one or more of them are "runaways" (in keeping in step with the near-zero crime rate in aruba) or otherwise disappeared?

The average genuine "aruban" (arawak) would be highly PO's to know that foreigners were involved in this sort of crime against arubans, and could explain them hiding their faces at this time.......?????
