Firefighters drain a lake, Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in Oranjestad, Aruba searching for Alabama teenager, Natalee Holloway, who vanished nearly two months ago while vacationing in the island. Edwin Comemencia, a police spokesman, confirmed that the draining of the lake across from the Marriott Hotel was part of the investigation into Holloway's disappearance but would not comment further. The draining was expected to take up to 24 hours. (AP Photo/Pedro Famous Diaz)
Here's what I found other surfers saying about using duct tape:
Windsurfers regularly keep a roll or rolls of duct-tape handy. Not the cheapo stuff that people have noticed isn't very sticky, but the really good sticky kind.
I've always brought a roll of duct-tape along on my windsurfing vacations.
Duct Tape is used to help with blisters on hands and feet, but also used frequently to temporarily patch small rips in sails or dings in fibre-glass boards.
and
...I've seen others use duct tape on hands, fingers and feet. Sometimes the blister just occurs, and the duct tape is used just to add a layer of protection 'during' the activity.
I have used duct tape on the achilles tendon portion of my feet, when wearing booties while sailing has begun to chafe my heel area.
I'm certainly not suggesting 'duct-tape' as the medicinal solution to blisters. It is though, most definitly used for many short-term solutions for sailing issues from blisters, to sail rips, to you name it.
For as long as I've sailed ( since 1979 ) the slogan 'Duct-tape...the sailors best friend' has been around.
Long hair, windy conditions, sticky duct tape...easy to see how hair could wind up on the tape.
Perhaps. She didn't elaborate. No idea what 'hearing' or who would be involved.
OH! Maybe it's the judge's decision on whether or not the FBI can have full access to all the info on the 3 boys and the entire case? I know joran's attorney is adament to keep this under ALE's hat.
You won't recognize this town. It's growing WAY too fast.
Tim Miller states that they will be taking a back hoe to the dump tomorrow, may take several days to search it. Hopefully they will have results before long per Tim. They will be spread 3 different places. The dump is back behind the airport, not near the Marriott. It is going to be a difficult search now per Tim.
I think that's it -- I recall reading about a hearing regarding the FBI being permitted to review the interrogation transcripts.
Good night handsome Handem and sweet deejay.
Howlin = I monitored this thread -- nothing of any significance today. I will call you if anything happens tomorry morning.
GPR anomaly can detect a body down around 10 ft.
'Night, onyx.
Time for me to shut this thing down, too.
Yep, long day.
Night DeeJay.
Even Tim Miller said something like.......needs to be ruled out.
Thanks for posting that. Did Tim mention if it's likely the search may happen?
Did you see those images he was showing Greta. They were kind of creepy.
I agree, your son love his Mom(you) I see he was raised right witht the old school philosophy. CO have a good evening. NSNR
Let me tell everyone how difficult it may be to find a shoe (admittedly, this thread is WAY too long; I cannot possibly read all of the posts so I may have jumped in late, and I may have jumped in inappropriately as things 'strike me' such as in this particular post).
However,
I was with family one year near the seaside. We decided to dig for clams in the canals and mud flats (tidal areas). It was low tide, and seemingly, 'easy pickins'. I jumped off a bank maybe 2 feet in height, into 'soft mud'. The mud immediately began to suck me down into it. As I struggled, the deeper I became immersed. Like quicksand as one hears about it.
Luckily someone was with me; otherwise I truly believe I would have been stuck in mud when the tide began to rise above my head. He helped pull me out, but in doing so, my shoes were sucked down into the mud and came completely off my feet. Laced tennis shoes at that. I didn't mind being cut up by oyster shells and sawgrass all around my feet and ankles at that point. I was simply happy to get OUT.
If the 'perp's' shoes are in that pond, I don't know how they will ever find them; they could be under 3-4 feet of mud.
ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Strands of hair found in Aruba did not come from missing U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.
The hair, which was found attached to duct tape on July 17, was subjected to genetic testing at the FBI crime lab in Quantico, Virginia, and the results showed they did not come from the 18-year-old who has been missing for two months, said spokeswoman Judy Orihuela.
"The results were negative," said Orihuela. "It wasn't Natalee's hair."
A park ranger found the duct tape on July 17 while collecting trash on Aruba's northeast coast the opposite side of the island from where the Alabama woman was last seen in public.
Testing was also conducted on a sample of the hair at a crime lab in the Netherlands, but the results were not immediately available.
The news came as authorities in Aruba neared the end of an effort to drain a pond near a hotel and tennis club that has become a focus in the investigation. Holloway disappeared on May 30 on the final night of a high school graduation trip to the Dutch Caribbean island.
Crews expected to finish draining the pond on Friday, said Gabriel Kelly, a spokesman for the island's fire department, which was coordinating the effort.
"So far we haven't found anything out of the ordinary," Kelly said.
A lawyer for Holloway's mother and stepfather said the search was prompted by a witness who came forward last week and reported seeing three young men, including the Dutch youth who has been detained in the case, near the pond on the night of the teenager's disappearance.
The witness told investigators that he saw Joran van der Sloot, 17, and two Surinamese brothers driving near the pond on May 30 between 2:30 and 3 a.m. a time they previously told investigators they were already home said the attorney, Vinda de Sousa.
Holloway, from Mountain Brook, Alabama, vanished after an evening at a nightclub that she left with the three young men, hours before she was to fly home at the end of a trip with 124 classmates.
No one has been charged in the case and van der Sloot is the only person detained as a suspect. The Surinamese brothers, Satish and Deepak Kalpoe, were previously held and released.
My son sent me 8 yellow roses today at work!!
Birthday, CO?
I fear that Miller and his guys are on another wild goose chase at the landfill. Paul VDS would have found a much better solution to "No body, no case".
Yes I did. I hope that she has them put up on her site.
You may be right. They just want to keep trying, though. They have to exhaust every possibility.
