.He said the House has received the message that immigration is "an incredibly important issue to the American people."

"and subject to the jurisdiction thereof"

That's the problem-it's not clear at all. The interpretation was wrong, and likely done by a liberal court.

When someone enters here legally- on a work permit, becomming a citizen, etc, they agree to become subject to our laws. That's why diplomats are excepted.

However, when someone enters illegally - there is no such agreement - and by their very existance in this country, they are acting like they are NOT subject to US laws.

It's a very simple concept.

A friend of mine works as a nurse in a neonatal unit in a southern California hospital. She tells me that the majority of sick babies there are from non-English speaking mothers, some as young as 13. The babies require extended care, and the mothers are so naive that they have no idea how to care for their own babies, IF the babies survive.

We're importing welfare recipients by the millions because of the open borders. Our grandchildren will be paying for this mess.

Those of you on the anti-immigration bandwagon had better face reality.

We're NOT "anti-immigration". We're against ILLEGAL immigration. Big difference, there, MN.

You obviously haven't visited one of the border states lately if you think we should just sit back and accept this invasion and just shut up and pay for it. We'll continue to fight it.

Hey Tom, it's not just "an incredibly important issue to the American people."
It's right up there with terrorism, in fact I believe it's an essential part of protecting our homeland and way of life.

IMHO, a guest worker program will never work unless a method to track those whose time has expired is developed first.

Otherwise they can just "disappear" into the already rich underground economy.

A partial solution to this would be a program of stiff fines and jail time for employers who hire "out of time" aliens or other criminal aliens.

If we minimize the chance of getting a job we'll have gone a long way towards solving the problem.

deals with Border Security the same way the Kyl/Cornyn bill does in the Senate.

Delay's introducing an amnesty bill too?

Most of the people I have talked with here are anti-both. One of the compromise solutions that is probably going to come out of this is a massive overhaul of our LEGAL immigration system. In fact, that is what a "Guest worker" program is. The Guest Worker plan is an attempt to covert illegal immigrants to a legal status. Try pointing that out to most of those posting on illegal immigration and see what your response is. I warn you, be prepared to be flamed to a crisp. The simple fact is most anti-illegal immigration people cannot seem to grasp is that there is NO simple, cheap solutions to dealing with 12 million illegals and the network that supports them.

We are screwed. Too many Mexicans here already and we are never going to round them up and throw them out like we should.

We're screwed all right, but not by Mexicans!

No wonder Mark Twain felt all politicians needed a swift kick in the butt...but never did. After all, he had too much respect for his shoes.

Most from both parties have been in the fetal position under their desks with earplugs despite polls, etc. crying out for action.

Count on it if we have a terror attack traced back to the border. The clowns will pour out with bluster and shouts of indignation and finger pointing, perhaps arm in arm singing 'God Bless America.'

But then again, somebody once said the U.S. may be the only country in world history with laws and policies to assure self-destruction.

After all, we reaped what we sowed: September 11.

The interpretation was wrong, and likely done by a liberal court.

Yeah, that old liberal court of 1898. You will find the decision here. In it you will see that, unlike you, the court thoroughly investigated the historical background and correctly divined the legislative intent behind the amendment.

NO easy solutions you say?

(1) First we stop the flow by walls and manpower.
(2) Tell illegals to apply for citizenship, temporary worker card or similiar ID, such as student visas.
(3)ANYONE found without ID gets a free busride to the border of their choice.

The solutions are easy, finding politicians with the backbone to do it is the hard part.

The solution might not be cheap, but when you realize that EACH YEAR illegal immigration is costing (California taxpayers alone) BILLIONS of dollars, we think the money is there, and it's deliberately being spent on the wrong thing.

If the freebies to illegal aliens were cut off, like we tried to do by passing Proposition 187 a few years back, the funds would be there to enforce immigration laws. Unfortunately, our votes were thrown in the crapper by a liberal judge who said the proposition was "unconstitutional".

They all promise the moon and give you crumbs if they win.
It's a bait and switch policy. By the time you are a senior you have no hope, understand the shill game and are jaded enough not to bother believing it because the carrot extended is just always out of reach for one excuse or another.

When you're taking a break from canning, this'll get you started if you're looking for articles about Lupe Moreno and LAIR.

There are also Latinos among 'vigilantes' [the Minutemen] is from the blog of GringoUnleashed.

Opponents of driver's licenses for illegal immigrants couldn't have prayed for a better spokesperson than Lupe Moreno.

Patriotic Hispanics: Lupe Moreno, Chair, Orange County Republican National Hispanic Assembly....

This group doesn't care for Lupe because she is against giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens. Pictures from Alhambra SOS Counter Protest Part 2 : LA IMC
"LUPE MORENO, a self-hating, Aryan collaborating alleged 'latina', is the woman in the middle of this picture".

Rally across from the White House, Washington, DC, April 25, 2005 ... Roger Hedgecock, talk radio host. Erin Anderson, Arizona land owner and Washington activist Lupe Moreno - Latino Americans for Immigration Reform. ...

From the Save Our State forum: Him, and Lupe Moreno (MinuteWoman), and Angie Morfin, and others started LAIR ... I belive Lupe Moreno runs a Hispanic organization against illegal immigration.

Lupe Moreno speaks out against illegal immigration. Lupe Moreno was one of many who addressed the Anaheim City Council on Tuesday evening...

HJ: There is "quite a bit of discussion in legal circles" about seeing to it that "the village" will raise your child, but we aren't going to sit still for it, now are we?

The 14th Amendment says what it says. The attempt at contortion of the words iof that amendment to use "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" language to deny the plain language of citizenship granted by birth in our country is sophistry and nonsense.

If a "framer" of the 14th Amendment were to have written his second cousin that the 14th Amendment was enacted to get a date for his sister Suzie, so what? Only in cases where the language of the provision is AMBIGUOUS OR DOUBTFUL, are secondary sources relevant.

If an "illegal alien" were to assassinate Tancredo or merely rob a bank, you will see the assassin apprehended and subjected to the jurisdiction of American courts rather promptly (and rightfully so) and, if the crime occurred in Texas or any sensible state, the punishment for assassination would likely be, ummmm, some quite final medicinal treatment by lethal injection.

This is yet one more thread of people angry over the immigration, angry at Mexicans, angry at the inevitability of demographic change, and angry enough to want a calcified fortress society deluding themselves as to the meaning of the constitution to suit their fantasies. If this border paranoia business and full blown xenophobia are grafted onto the conservative movement, then the movement is destroyed and, consequently, the nation will be destroyed.

If the problem is scarcity of jobs, address the scarcity of jobs by abolishing WTO, GATT, NAFTA and other sovereignty sapping business schemes and build a movement and a consciousness here for good-paying jobs.

If your problem is that Hispanics (of all sorts) voted 55-45 for Traitor John in 2004, recognize that a probable majority of Mexican-Americans had to vote GOP since Puerto Ricans are so heavily Demonrat in the northeast (although there is even movement to the GOP among them). Fight for Hispanic votes and you will get them in increasing numbers. They have a future GOP majority because of social issues so long as the Xenophobic-American community does not screw it up. Our nation will look less and less like Suzy Chapstick in the future. Shall we want America to be governed by Demonrats elected by the Hispanics we threw away?????? They will be here in any case. How do you want them to vote?

If your problem is welfare costs, the traditional conservative remedy is the constitution whose Tenth Amendment clearly prohibits federal action not clearly delegated to the federales, and then to fight within your state to abolish welfare schemes. Of course, that means chucking your grandma off the welfare wagon (14th Amendment Equal Protection was specifically enacted to govern actions of the states) when abolishing welfare for EVERYONE and not just for nationalities and people you don't like. (See 14th Amendment Equal Protection language protecting "persons" not merely citizens).

If your problem is Taco Bell proliferation, do not patronize but recognize that TB is probably owned by all-American Pepsi Cola or some such. You can always patronize McDonald's and send the profits to the Demonratic National Committee via the estate of the widow Kroc.

Those of you who are losing it over the immigration: two generations from now your descendants will be ashamed of your attitudes, stereotypes, history and cause. As well they should be.

Juan and Maria are not coming north so that son Pablo can "marry" Lance or so that daughter Lucia can murder their grandchildren in the womb or to resist the military or to do environmentalist stuff or to make our gummint skewels any more evil than they already are. They are coming north to get work to support their families. They are mostly social conservatives. The regime of America being governed by servants of the fastidiously birth-controlling and aborting Junior League types has failed. Our population is aging at an alarming rate because the Baby Boomer generation was too self-centered and materialistic to bear enough children. We are being strangled by a materialism of high expectations that are no longer able to be met. Back to the drawing boards with the injection of new blood from the immigration.

None of you actually think that this immigration, as such, can be stopped, do you????? My ancestors (coming from England, Ireland, Scotland via Canada and Germany) needed no "papers" to enter this country and be citizens. Neither did most of yours.

Alexander Hamilton was not born in the US or its territories nor of American parents (although his paternity is not conclusively known). He is not alone in that respect among citizens who have contributed much to our society.

It is noteworthy that few who want a Berlin Wall around America ever talk about the Canadian border which is a much more likely conduit for Islamofascist terrorists to cross our border, nor about our thousands of miles of generally unprotected shorelines. You should watch out for what you ask for because you just might get it someday. Patrolling the perimeter of the United States effectively is one heck of a lot more expensive than the border maniacs will ever admit. Then there is the cost of law enforcement WITHIN the borders being empowered enough to search out every "illegal." If you think government is expensive now, wait until you see the tax bill for doing what you ask.

Want an effective military capable of being deployed in defense of the United States? They will be tied up on non-productive boredom duty on the border boondoggle project.

Care about the RTKBA? We can't very well refrain from gun confiscation since a few border agents might be shot by "illegals" if we let guns be available in our society. Sorry, I care too much for the Second Amendment to see my civilian countrymen disarmed.

Do I want the US to become a parody with self-appointed "border patrol" yahoos patrolling the night time desert in pickup trucks with six packs searching for dangerous mamacitas and bambinos? Well, ummmmm, that would be a definite NO!

That should put the hay down where the goats can get it and stimulate some discussion instead of the self-righteous offended types posing for anti-Mexican holy pictures in the "rule of law" disguise!

MisterDa: Thanks for injecting truth into the all too usual hysteria over our Southern Border.
