Terri Schiavo's remains buried in Clearwater
Sun-Sentinel ^ | June 20, 2005 | MITCH STACY

Terri Schiavo's husband buried her cremated remains in a Clearwater cemetery Monday, inscribing on her bronze grave marker that ``I kept my promise.''

David Gibbs, an attorney for the woman's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, said inscribing the marker that way was a nasty political statement by Michael Schiavo, who held the service and burial Monday before telling her family.

``Obviously, that's a real shot and another unkind act toward a grieving mom and dad,'' Gibbs said.

After earlier announcing plans to bury his wife's ashes in their native Pennsylvania, Michael Schiavo instead interred them at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, near Tampa, his attorney, George Felos, said in a short news release Monday.

I don't judge him for wanting to go on with his life. It was a tragic situation. I can't blame a man of his age for wanting to rebuild his life. What bothers me, and others, is that after he "moved on," he continued to claim the privileges of being Terri's husband. The fact that he had moved on to a new life, and that the pursuit of that life was impeded by Terri's continued existence, made him unsuitable as a guardian for Terri. He had a conflict of interest that should have precluded him from making those decisions. It is unreasonable on the one hand to say he had the right to move on, find a new wife (in all but name), and have children with her, yet at the same time to say as Terri's husband, he was entitled to make all decisions. The concept of one spouse deciding for another is based on the notion that your spouse has your best interests at heart and is, in fact, acting as your spouse. The problem here is Michael Schiavo wanted to have it both ways. It was not right for him to simultaneously act as a husband to another woman and to claim the right to act as Terri's husband. If he needed to move on (which is understandable, at least) he needed to really move on... not just move on in the ways he chose.

Michaal (scum boy) can't afford to dump her in a unknown grave. The boy has to keep the story going in order to cash in on her death. I don't know if this sicko caused her injuries to begin with, but he sure did murder her in Florida with a judge's help. Also, the Schindlers took care of Terrim and Michael lived with them until he won a malpractice suit where he promised to care for her forever (this is why the jury gave him all that lovely money). I hope his court battles took every penny of this blood money, and I hope he doesn't make a dime on his 'book'.

After what, eighteen years of Terri being a vegetable, he had no right to get on with his life?

1. It was just over 14 years, not 18. Michael began dating not after all that time but within less than a year after her incapacitation.

2. It's not been established whether she was a "vegetable" or a minimally conscious state.

3. Since the vows clearly say "til death," the answer would have to be negative - or at least it is where I come from.

He is pathetic. Same gene pool as the Clintons, "It's all about me". What a pathetic asshole.

I don't understand why he did the dates that way. It seems like put that way it is just going to create more hard feelings.

By putting his self-serving remark on the plaque, he insured that Terri's parents could not visit the grave without being reminded of him. It was definitely an in your face gesture.

Not very admirable.

Wonder how long the marker has been there, and if he really buried her ashes there. Now that attention has been brought to it, I'll be surprised if people leave it alone.

MS is mocking Terri and her parents even now. ...

I agree, and he's really sticking it into the eyes of all the TS zealots. He is probably savoring his 'victory' over the parents as much as he is enjoying jerking around those so emotionally caught up in the issue. I'm absolutely sure he is receiving personal enjoyment in his retributions. He's getting a pound of flesh and having fun doing it.

The family basically accused him of negligent homocide and you don't understand why he's angry?

So that gives him the right to put something about himself on HER tombstone? I never heard of such a thing. Most people write things about the loved one who is buried not about themselves. I can not understand how anyone can defending this creep.

What kind of husband would use his wife's epitaph to write about himself.

One that is consumed by power. Anyone that does not see that this man is a creep is just plain naive.

Why do I get the feeling that there are many of you who'd feel cheated if the man did repent all of his sins?

Absolutely NOT!!! God's GRACE and MERCY are what salvation is all about. For MS to repent, ask for forgiveness and turn away from this sinful behavior would be what most of us here are praying for. That will never bring Terri back now. You can't go back in time. But it would bring a spirit of healing to the situation.

I believe that I interpreted you comments wrong.

That's okay, I probably worded it poorly. I must have been tired. Glad to see you figured it out any way.
