I would be on the side of those who say no, it is wrong to kill a woman like that by dehydration. You're entitled to your opinion, just like the rest of us are; but people all over this country are doing just that, as we type. And it is THEIR choice, made by them and their guardians or families. Not anybody else's.

So, if their guardian decided that the best thing for them would be to end their life by shooting them in the head, that would be OK too? Removing all hydration and nutrition is somehow OK?

There are no pro death people on this thread, only over the top outrageous lies like yours.

Once you open the door for someone to make these personal decisions for you, you allow for a stranger to decide whether you live or die.

Exactly! And I'm afraid that's what they want!

Hildy, reread what I wrote. I quoted the known circumstances, not my opinions. The medical report is fact, not some opinion. We are drenched with such facts. It is good to get some of them out into the air again for those who missed it, don't you think?

People with like minds can have differing life experiences that affect the way they view this situation. I don't think it's hatefull, just differing opinions.

Of course, but unfortunately, some folks cannot see that.

"What it will lead to is this: You and your husband will also lose your rights to each other...to the courts. Is that what you really want? This isn't about parents' rights vs. spousal rights. It's about the government deciding who has a right to live. It's obviously another hurdle that's been cleared. "

I hope none of the "judicial murder!" crowd are going to be prattling on in different threads about "judicial activism" anymore...

Credibility, anyone?

Bizarre indeed. I too have had a lifetime of pro-life activism but was called a 'good German' and pro-death (repeatedly) because I urged reason into the discussion.

The false accusations here have got to go. They cloud the serious discussion of the critical issue at hand, and only demean those who make them.

This entire event has been disturbing at many levels.

Personally, I think it would be better done with drugs...making it quicker and easier...but your side won't let that happen either. So you've set up this straw dog of the evil dehydration.

Ping, Gondring. Exactly, Hildy. Damned if one does, and damned if one doesn't.

You are lucky to have a fine husband. Terri wasn't so lucky.

You need to start adding IMO to ALL your posts; frankly, a lot of your statements are not based in reality.

Terri died of "marked dehydration." She didn't starve to death." Why did she get so skinny then after they started killing her?

My 6-foot-tall father barely weighed 100 pounds when he died. He never had been denied food or water, however. In fact, when the medical staff asked my mother whether she wanted to remove the feeding tube - when it was abundantly clear that there was no hope of regaining lost brain function - she said no. So how did he lose all that weight, I wonder? Perhaps it was a conspiracy between the Scientologists, Judge Greer and Jeb Bush, hmmmmm?

Your #688 post. NOT A SCINTILLA OF TRUTH IN IT!

Have you ever SEEN for YOURSELF, someone who's feeding tube was removed, and what the process is?

If NOT, DON'T post such drivel and rehortic.

You know, Howlin, if anything was amiss in the autopsy, the report would never be made public.
Imagine, for a minute, the autopsy showed the husband tried to kill his wife, and then had the state finish her off for him - legally - with their blessing, by starving her to death!
Image how many people would go down for that one!!!
Do you really really think all this is squeaky clean? Does this really smell right to you?

I have to go. I stole the computer from my kid, and she wants it back. Damn.

We allowed an innocent human being to be starved to death

That is the bottom line.....something we would not allow to happen to a dog.

I'm afraid some here do support the dehydration of those who are brain damaged.

This site is for conservatives and if you aren't one of them why are you here?

It seems like you, who believe all conservatives should march in LOCKSTEP, just might be at the wrong site.

The laws of the State of Florida used to allow slaveowners to own, sell, and abuse their slaves. Do you respect that? The U.S. Supreme Court's Dred Scott decision stated that slaves were just so much property and not entitled to the rights granted to human beings. Do you respect that? Roe v. Wade disallows states from prohibiting murder by abortion. Do you respect that? You have confused legal and illegal with right and wrong.

BOILERPLATE ALERT!

Get back to me when you CHANGE the laws.

You can't address it, can you? You can't answer those questions, can you? All of those things were LEGAL until the laws were changed. But were the RIGHT!? You said you "respected" the laws of the State of Florida, so I brought up some examples. Again, there's a difference between right and wrong - legal and illegal just doesn't cover it.

I have told my husband that if I ever experience an event where my heart has stopped for many minutes, and my cerebral cortex has been without oxygen for over 6 minutes, don't let anyone near me with the jumper cables, and failing that, don't let anyone stick a feeding tube in me and keep my body going. What's the point of that?

Given that statement, I expect you to be labeled "pro-death," a Nazi death cultist, and whatever else the Buttinskis can think of.

Also most states do not require doctors to honor an advance directive. You can google that.

Case in point, Mae in Georgia right after Terri died. She had in her ad that she wanted fluid and nutrition but her granddaughter got it taken from her anyway.

Please don't use that dog analogy...we would never allow a dog to live in the manner Terri Schiavo was living. I would say we have more compassion for animals. Ever see the movie or play, WHOSE LIFE IS IT ANYWAY? Go ahead and rent it. The patient uses that exact analogy.
