And I'll give you that about Southerns being more trust worthy (on Avg) I'd definitely agree.
But I'm also a big enough man to call it like it is and not have some foolish geographical bias built into me (because I am from the North).
But the bottom line remains that police checkpoints (that have nothing to do with sobriety - especially when they are taking place at 1pm in the afternoon on both main and backroads!!) - But these police checkpoints are simply ridiculous and WOULD not last up in the North. Not by a long shot!
But down South, people seem to love bending over for local police departments - That is plain and simple.
And if you live in TN - Come on down here to Asheville NC and spend five days I'll guarantee you'll run through a checkpoint or two!! (just drive between Asheville and Spartanburg, SC).
If Chapel Hill is the Berkeley of the South, Asheville is the Ithaca. I know, my old college roommate, an uber-lib, wanted to move there when he graduated because it was full of "his type of people". He couldn't get a job teaching there, so now he poisons kids' minds in Baltimore.
Unless you travel every southern state, every week, and run into checkpoints in every one of them....
shush. I haven't seen a checkpoint in Alabama for 15 years. If you are trying to anger the Southerners on this board.. you're doing a good job of it.

I'm forced to agree with you on both points. I'm a northerner who was startled by the politeness and honesty of southerners and bewildered by their bowing down to the police as a matter of course. They thought I was some kind of radical for respecting the police but not thinking they had the right to just poke around in my life or car at their whim.
