Excerpt...

Her travels may be over, but Wilbanks' troubles may have just begun. Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said he was examining evidence for a possible charge of making false statements to a government agency.

Sartain believes that's not necessary.

"She is deeply regretful of the pain she caused her family, her fiancé, her friends and the community who rallied to her aid," the lawyer said Wednesday. "I believe Jennifer committed no crime."

Arrests for shoplifting

Sartain, a former Hall County district attorney, knows her client. Court records show that Wilbanks was arrested three times in that county on shoplifting charges from 1996 to 1998.

In 1996, as district attorney, Sartain prosecuted Wilbanks for allegedly shoplifting $1,740 in merchandise from a Gainesville mall, court records show. Sartain dropped the felony charge after Wilbanks, then 24, completed a pretrial diversion program, the records show. Wilbanks performed 75 hours of community service and paid restitution, according to court records.

Months before that felony arrest, police had charged Wilbanks with misdemeanor shoplifting for allegedly taking $37.05 in merchandise from a Gainesville Wal-Mart. Court records show that officials dismissed the case after Wilbanks completed "Project Turnabout," a six-week counseling program for shoplifters.

She was arrested again, city court records show, in April 1998, when Wilbanks, then 25, was charged with shoplifting $98 worth of merchandise from a store. She pleaded guilty and served two weekends in jail. A judge also sentenced her to probation, a $400 fine and 50 hours of community service.

The plot sickens.
If you ask me, the groom has that goofy look in the eye as well. Five years without sex will do that to you.
Next thing you know we'll be finding out they are really first cousins and half brother and sister.

Funny how this story strikes a nerve with people.

"Five years without sex will do that to you."

We don't know that. He never made such a claim. It's from that NYPost article, which had such a crazy premise to begin with: that she fled before her wedding night because she wanted sex.

May 7, 2005 -- Chastity didn't come easy to born-again virgin John Mason. Friends counseled him on how to stay pure as he courted runaway bride Jennifer Wilbanks.

Jilted John, 32, had his fun in college but gave up partying when he became a Christian, pal and fellow marathoner Ted King told The Post.

"It was important to him," said King, 47 and himself born again.

King advised his friend to "pray a lot" for the strength to stay chaste, to make his expectations clear — and to be on guard against weakness.

snip

And contrary to reports that the couple had shared a home, King insisted: "There were a lot of times she may have stayed at the house, but they didn't live together."

King recalled telling Mason to be careful not to get himself in tempting situations with his new girlfriend — but he said the relationship was never about sex.

THE source of Jennifer Wilbanks' anti- marital disorder has been identified, and her problem was not caused by cold feet, a muddled head or an icy heart.

The bug-eyed bride-not-to-be from Georgia suffered from a serious physical affliction that stems from a region of the anatomy best described in euphemism.

It was not frozen feet at the prospect of her impending nuptials to a neo-virgin named John Mason that kept Jen up at night in a frantic sweat.

It was hot pants.

Oh, Jen, if only you'd asked for my assistance. There is help for your particular brand of torment, and it is readily available at the nearest barstool.

So when next you feel the urge to fake your own kidnapping and play out your twisted rape fantasy before the world, I advise you first to seek professional guidance.

Slip into something cute, and find the nearest tavern. There, a trained bartender will assist you in drinking yourself into erratic idiocy, at which point you may feel free to take off with the first redneck you meet.

You may hate yourself in the morning, honey. But it sure beats jail.

snip

Dim-bulb John is so gosh-darn proud of the purity of his sweetie — whose surgically augmented breasts have being going to waste — that he crowed about their lack of premarital shenanigans this week on Fox News' Sean Hannity.

Jennifer yesterday made a pathetic attempt to transform her acute case of hard-up-itis into a full-blown mental affliction.

She betrayed her friends and family. She perpetrated an expensive hoax on law enforcement, diverting resources from genuine victims and increasing the chance that the next woman who cries "Rape!" will not be believed.

There does exist a venue in which Jennifer might get her needs met: prison.

You may not find the man of your dreams in the women's pen, Jennifer. But you are certain to become someone's wife.

This, as the Mason family reportedly entertained paying offers from tabloid TV shows. Call me a cynic. But this joyous conclusion to the loopy drama that captured the nation, amid a number of genuine abductions and murders, is offensive, at best. And grounds for hard time, at worst.

Jennifer's (current) criminal defense attorney was the prosecutor on her three shoplifting arrests (and convictions) - one was the $1,700 grand theft criminal felony rap - which her current defense attorney reduced to a misdeameanor, community service, and 2 weekends in jail?

What occupation did/does Jennifer's father have?

Most ex-prosecutors who now are criminal defense attorneys have "influence" with Judges and prosecutors.

Many also love to be paid in cash at the courthouse.

At least that's why some smile as they hand their client a signed piece of paper with the amount paid on it.

Perhaps that is just a rumor.

Some defense attorney(s) seen currently on CNN as "experts" perhaps.

They can't help it if the vultures are circling. We all knew that would happen, when she put the blanket over her head.

No one has reported that the couple are trying to rake in the dough. Not yet.

Yes, they will turn down the money -- "this is a private matter" they'll say. Gimme a break, every bridesmaid involved is gonna try to cash in.

She was married in a CHURCH. One doesn't do smoke effects in a CHURCH and since you seem to be fascinated by the music selections, I tell you what they were.

During the wait, all four movements of Vivaldi's FOUR SEASONS were played on the organ, along with List's Leibestraum No.3, Fuer Elise by Beethoven, and some Bach. The bridesmaids and maid of honor walked down the aisle to Canon in D Major by Pachabal, and the processional and recessional were the usual Wagner's Lohengrin and Mendolson that I and my mother and grandmother had all used.

Would you care to have the readings listed as well?

Nope, no chopped liver and no lobsters. The cold hors d'oeuvres passed during the cocktail hour were foie gras mousse on toast points, duck confit and candied onion marmalade canapes, mini beef filets on garlic crostini with horse radish cream;the hot ones were crispy sesame chicken strips with apricot mustard sauce, wild mushrooms and goat cheese turnovers, pear and Brie quesadillas with grape salsa, and a caviar station.

The meal was high cream tea ( do you want a full blown menu for that too?), there was NO "sweet table", and the wedding cake was from a really wonderful wedding cake artist, whose name you would know, if you knew anything at all about such things.

There was, of course, champagne and after dinner cigars for those who wanted them.

Now stop trying to make out that I threw a crumby wedding reception. Is that the only kind you've ever been to?

...eight showers! That one helluva lot of Kitchen Aid.

As for the cheap and twadry, people amuse me. I can't help it. I know it's a vice, but I haven't been able to find a support group for it.

There are all kinds of different showers thrown today and mixers and toasters are not what's given; unless one has a "kitchen shower".

I've NEVER heard of anyone having 8 showers before. I think that Jen was milking this for all she could get. And the 28 attendants is just mind boggling. All in all, everything about that wedding was in dreadful taste !

I know your proclivities, but you need not have attempted to make me the butt of your obsession; especially when you know good and well and I don't fall into the category you attempted to place me in. You could have gotten your damned digs in, without trying to besmirch me and mine.

This was a WASP wedding and though a great deal of fun, neither cheap nor tawdry.

Did they French kiss at the altar?
Did she feed him cake?
Did people form a conga line at the reception?
Was there an open bar?
Did the guests eat chicken?
Did they sit on stackable chairs?
DJ or live musicians?

'fess up!

No.

Yes, but neither smashed cake on the other.

No.

Yes; had to have one during the cocktail hour, we had a South African contingent.

No; can't you read? The meal was a HIGH CREAM TEA.

No. Again, can't you read? There were TWO different live bands...one for the cocktail hour and a society orchestra ( 12 musicians and three singers) for the meal and dancing.

And no, there was NO "chicken" dance either, nor anything like that.

Anything else you want to know...the name of the atelier, that made my hat, or who designed my daughter's dress, for instance? LOL

Oooooooops, I take that back ( I just pulled the file), there actually were chicken with tarragon mayonnaise sandwiches, along with the cucumber, tomato, roast beef,watercress,date-nut bread and butter and cream cheese, and smoked salmon sandwiches on the trials. And then, there were the mini pastries, petite fours, various kinds of truffles, tarts, scones and Devonshire cream and lemon curd.
