Her travels may be over, but Wilbanks' troubles may have just begun. Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said he was examining evidence for a possible charge of making false statements to a government agency.
Sartain believes that's not necessary.
"She is deeply regretful of the pain she caused her family, her fiancé, her friends and the community who rallied to her aid," the lawyer said Wednesday. "I believe Jennifer committed no crime."
Arrests for shoplifting
Sartain, a former Hall County district attorney, knows her client. Court records show that Wilbanks was arrested three times in that county on shoplifting charges from 1996 to 1998.
In 1996, as district attorney, Sartain prosecuted Wilbanks for allegedly shoplifting $1,740 in merchandise from a Gainesville mall, court records show. Sartain dropped the felony charge after Wilbanks, then 24, completed a pretrial diversion program, the records show. Wilbanks performed 75 hours of community service and paid restitution, according to court records.
Months before that felony arrest, police had charged Wilbanks with misdemeanor shoplifting for allegedly taking $37.05 in merchandise from a Gainesville Wal-Mart. Court records show that officials dismissed the case after Wilbanks completed "Project Turnabout," a six-week counseling program for shoplifters.
She was arrested again, city court records show, in April 1998, when Wilbanks, then 25, was charged with shoplifting $98 worth of merchandise from a store. She pleaded guilty and served two weekends in jail. A judge also sentenced her to probation, a $400 fine and 50 hours of community service.
She wanted to be rescued from her life and decided the prince who showed up wasn't particularly charming.
I'm not buying that...yet. This wasn't a jilting, so far as we know, and I'll bet her fiance knows that, since he was so anxious to put the wedding ring back on her finger.
Takes real guts to admit that
She may do what a lot of women in her situation do: marry the guy, have a couple of kids, start work on a drinking problem that will become full-blown-trying to seduce the tennis-pro-at-the-club by the time she's fifty and create the kind of homelife that will assure a lifetime of therapy for the children.
You have every right to feel no compassion for Jen, the stinking liar, who obviously has absolutely NO regard for anyone except herself.

Before y'all keep piling on her fiancee, I bet there isn't a guy reading this who (when young and foolish) would not have had fantasies of 'rescuing' this damsel from her demons....
you KNOW you would have....its the weakness that's ruined many of us!!!!!
Saying that she has "issues" is a whitewash and ultra PC drivel! She's got mental problems and was raised badly by parents who were either completely blind to her problems, or helped to create them.
You bet that there is more to this story and I bet that none of it will be less onerous than the things that are just now coming out about her past.

This is the kind of acting out that kids do,who crave attention and rules from their parents. For an adult woman to behave in this manner, speaks volumes.
Being a fundamentally mean spirited person with little sympathy for morons, I have to say that it does make me feel marginally better.
However, in her own deranged way, she's also a parable and a cautionary tale for both men and women.
Yep, the media gets it wrong. No one was more wrong on this one than Hannity.
I'm a fan, but his ego got the best of him with this one. He blew it.....big time. He should have heeded the comments of his callers....instead of trying to change their opinions. It was clear she was a nutcase....and a wacko.

I don't think that a week goes by when I don't see "adult women" either drugged to the gills or reduced to such a childlike state by their husbands that they are virtually non-fuctioning adults.
I think if Ms Runaway were to be as honest she would get a lot more sympathy and forgiveness on all fronts.

In interviews with her attorney, she referred to the trauma Jennifer had been through. I was a little unsure what she meant or if it's something related to why she took off.

Jen gave 100s of people days of living through a nightmare, but her lawyer claims that it is she who lived through a trauma? Good grief!!!

Reminds me of the old joke. Law partner is at the tennis club with his wife and an attractive young woman walks by and says, "Hi Jack!"
The wife answers, "Who was that?"
Jack says, "That's my mistress."
"Mistress!" says the wife. "I want a divorce."
"Fine," says Jack. "But you'll have to downsize. No club membership, only one car and it's domestic, and we sell the beach house and cancel the credit cards."

"She's Tim's mistress," answers Jack.
"I think our mistress is much more attractive, don't you?" says the wife.
