"Well, I am just as proud of my Confederate ancestors who, btw, never owned any slaves. One had such a bad foot that he could not fight but he did his share by making shoes for the soldiers. His son did fight. Believe me when I say that some of us are extremely proud of our ancestors who have fought in every war since the Revolution. As far as my genealogy shows none were killed"

None of my ancestors were killed in the Civil War either, which makes them either accomplished warriors or very adept cowards. :)

I had seven direct ancestors fight in the Civil War. 2 died. One at the Battle of Wilson's Creek in Mo. (1st AR Calvary), the other one died at Shiloh (10th AR Infantry). The others?... 5th IA Infantry (Union), 32nd AR Infantry, 32nd Georgia Infantry, 46th No Infantry (An AR resident fighting in the Union army), and a 5th one that does not show a regiment on his widow's pension application. Application was approved.

BTW... I teach genealogy at a library, if anyone needs some tips on ancestral research.
