House Majority Leader Tom DeLay apologized Wednesday for using overheated rhetoric on the day Terri Schiavo died, but refused to say whether he supports impeachment of the judges who ruled in her case.

At a crowded news conference in his Capitol office, DeLay addressed remarks he made in the hours after the brain-damaged Florida woman died on March 31. "I said something in an inartful way and I shouldn't have said it that way and I apologize for saying it that way," DeLay told reporters.

DeLay seemed at pains to soften, if slightly, his rhetoric of March 31, when Schiavo died despite an extraordinary political and legal effort to save her life.
"I believe in an independent judiciary. I repeat, of course I believe in an independent judiciary," DeLay said.
At the same time, he added, the Constitution gives Congress power to oversee the courts.
"We set up the courts. We can unset the courts. We have the power of the purse," DeLay said.
Asked whether he favors impeachment for any of the judges in the Schiavo case, he did not answer directly.
Instead, he referred reporters to an earlier request he made to the House Judiciary Committee to look into "judicial activism" and Schiavo's case in particular.

Please name them and provide information why he was not removed from office if this was the case
I just hate when newbies try to inform everyone else of the "facts," but don't take the time to do the research. I really don't have the time or inclination to review all the old posts for you. Maybe Ohioan from Florida knows who has the links readily available for you. If not, well, next time I come across it, I'll ping you to it. But I'm not going to stay up all night doing your homework. It might do you some good to read through some of the many threads available, so you'll know the basics.
"as if the case was a zoning dispute" -- well said.
I trust Tom DeLay to do what needs to be done. His effectiveness is what scares the bejeebers out of the scumbags, and it is why they are going after him like this.
Tom DeLay is one of a dying breed, a man with a backbone.
****
Take care ........
Btw, when I say "newbies" I'm referring to the fact that you showed up on the Terri threads a day late and a dollar short.
BTTT
LOL. Maybe you could get some for your "feral cat" problem. ;-)
Been here a hell of a lot longer than you babe, seen things that you will never know about, so don't go playing that "newbies" crap on me. I've been on the Terri threads for a while, sorry you didn't get a chance to call me names early on. Now, if you want to give up invective, hyperbole and sloppy logic, I'm here.
Just don't bring your friends that love to kinda yell "nazi", but puss out when confronted and asked what they really mean in yes or no terms...
I am not the person you're talking about. If you have problem with something someone else said, take it up with them, not me. It's too bad you didn't understand what I wrote.
Hey Bill, you were here 3 years before Barb, I was here 5 years before her, we are the newbies.
But you remember when this site had intellectuals, ones that thought with their heads rather than their hearts. Ones that understood the role of the judiciary in the government and weren't ready to throw it all away on one very average case because all the theocrats said so.
My god, they have Randall Terry on their side, a man that called for a theocracy, a man that cheated on his wife while pretending to be a great christian family man. A man that disowned a gay child of his, and has another child that is estranged. So many kooks, so little time.
I just see another harpie, laying down the judgement stick, condemning everyone that doesn't lead a perfect and pious life like you do.
gag
Why do you go around calling people names? You have a real problem. You need to find a way to rid yourself of all that hatred you're carrying around. It's eating a hole through your soul. I'll pray for you.
How about a courtesy ping, instead of lying about me behind my back?
Yeah. Right.
You are correct. I thought you were referring to the common claim here and in print that he diagnosed Weland as PVS. My apologies.
The man you refer to had a clean brain scan, and had not been unresponsive very long. I want to say 18 months? Back in '79 or '89?
Cranford has had to eat that diagnosis many times.
Cranford is, like I said, "a scary dude". He has said that PVS patients don't even deserve civil rights. I've seen him in interviews, and... well, he's evil, IMO.
Greer broke many laws
and I ask simply for documentation of this unsubstantiated comment. What do I get in return? Another remark that I 'don't know the basics' and need to do my 'homework'. I'm sorry dearie, but if you look at my previous posts beginning in the 400s, I have done my homework and know the facts (although I realize they don't apparently matter)
Oh, and of course, a non-response to my request for the laws that Greer 'broke'. Expected nothing less. I agree with CS. At one time, you could expect a valid well thought out response on threads that dealt with issues like this. However, apparently a valid response has now devolved to random rantings totally off the subject of the previous post.
Please answer the question. I'm sure if a state judge broke laws it would be all over the news. Since I can't seem to find it, perhaps you could take just a moment to send us in the right direction to find this pertinent information that seemed to miss every main news outlet in the nation and the world. Now would this info be on Randall Terry's website or 'Nobel Prize nominee' Hammesfahr's site?
