...The organizers of the Minuteman Project say that a branch could be coming to a border area near you, including Texas. However, the anemic turnout for the first deployment suggests that the movement might soon come to a blessed standstill. Amen.

A Houstonian armed to the teeth stands atop his pickup truck in the Arizona desert. He probably had a 9mm and a pair of binoculars.

From what I understand, because of the Minuteman Project, the Mexican government has put a number of troops at the border to "redirect" the illegals to other areas.
They don't want the project to be successful and they don't want the US people to know just how many are crossing each day.
What we have seen is a reduction, at least initially, of attempted crossings.
So is it working?

The MMP has been sucessful on many fronts. The actual turnout number of participants has met the goal set by the organizers as far I have seen.
There is a problem and more people in the US are now more aware of it.
The goverment will be shamed into doing their jobs eventually.
To me it is rediculous that my cigarette lighter is more of a concern now traveling than thousands of unknowns crossing the border every day. Talk about messed up priorities!
I say it is a win win situation.

"Armed to the teeth" is balanced?
Setting off motion detectors "complicates" a non-existent mission?

Finally some truth coming out of the desert. What I find really interesting is that Spiffy seems to be having a heart attack because I'm on his threads like a MMK is on a Mexican, yet he has the gal to come pollute your own thread. From Tancredo on down, I really think the other side has no concept of hypocracy.

MMP Here's the problem. Instead of the "Minute Man Project," it should have been called the "Million Man Project." Then the media could have reported that hundreds of thousands were involved.
To: harrowup
Border Patrol officials said some civilian observers set off motion detectors, complicating rather than aiding the agency's mission. This is stupid. So how do they distinguish against things like wild animals (e.g. deer, elk, wild pigs, etc?) - that's a straw man. If the motion detectors only set up to detect vehicles then the motion detectors are pretty much useless for people who choose a stealthier method.

officials said some civilian observers set off motion detectors, They never say it's the Minuteman people. Why? Because it's the press that is actually setting them off. They would like you to believe that's because of the minuteman so they leave it up to the reader.

but he and his confederates will fail.
How are the minutemen considered confederates? Just because they are calling the U.S. government accountable for our security. If it brings attention to our border problem and makes politicians realize that we citizens are fed up with ineffective immigration laws it is no different than people going to Washington and protesting on the mall.
