In times of crisis, you learn a lot about yourself, but you also learn alot about the people you're with. You discover different sides of them, sometimes sides you'd rather not have seen. This has been one of those times. The last week has seen people throw common sense and basic human empathy into the dumpster.
This sort of thing used to make more sense to me. When I was a liberal, I felt that everyone at heart was some combination of cruel, stupid, ignorant, and selfish. After the last week, I'm wondering if I wasn't right all along.
People are coming out of the woodwork to reveal themselves as either wild eyed conspiracy minded lunatics working the 'Terri is Jesus' angle, or cold hearted bureaucrats who would send their own grandparents to the ovens if presented with the right paperwork. There are quiet voices trying to debate the issue rationally, but they're being drowned out by the roar of a thousand grinding axes.
The left couldn't caricature conservatives better than what we're doing right now. Our circular firing squad is doing some top notch shooting.
