HOMOSASSA, Fla. — The full-scale search for a missing 9-year-old girl ended its final day as law enforcement officers turned to child abduction experts for help.
Investigators and hundreds of volunteer searchers have uncovered little evidence during five days of scouring the rural area where Jessica Lunsford disappeared, and the full-scale search was suspended Monday afternoon.
"To continue this, we would be spinning our wheels," said Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy.
Instead, law enforcement officers were turning to 20 experts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help crack the case. They planned to focus on a three-quarter mile radius area around Jessica's home.
Jessica's father described the change as a second phase of the investigation. After making a plea for her safe return while choking back tears, he expressed confidence that his daughter would come home.
"Just drop her off. I'll come get her," Mark Lunsford answered when asked what he would say to whoever had Jessica. "I know whoever has got Jessie, they have to have a heart."
He also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support. "It's been overwhelming, the people that have shown up," he said. "It makes me feel real good to know everyone's trying to help me out."
Lunsford said he remains convinced that his daughter did not leave home voluntarily even though authorities have uncovered no evidence she was abducted. He said it's unlikely Jessica was lured away.
"She just didn't go with strangers," Lunsford said. He said authorities also are looking for a stuffed purple dolphin missing from his daughter's room.

Silence would be good I feel ,if the worst we can imagine was discovered ..they would tell that ,so it could possibly be good news..Thats my opinion.
I tried registering to jessica's website days ago ,was denied as I wasn't registering with a paid ISP email address...I just got road runner and have not set up email with them yet... Can anyone here post in that message board and ask if that poster Juice has been looked into ...I find it very odd that with so many people registered there ,there are few posts in comparrison to the registered users.
I feel Juice post is so strange it warrents this ...I mean to come up with so many far fethched ,yet connecting data ...is very questionable ...and even an ISP would tell if he was in the local area atleast.
If, and only if, rumors are true and they found her:
It could mean they found her, but do not have her...YET
Announcing they know where she is could put her in more danger.
Worse case scenario, they do not want to tip their hand prior to making an arrest.
Not necessarily. Regardless of her status LE will still have investigative work to do.
I'm glad there will be an update, just wish they would let us know when. Surprised that Fox isn't mentioning this. But, then again thay are talking about Martha again! lol
I just had a thought.
If LE (that's Law Enforcement LOL!!!) had a major development, good or bad, what would they do prior to announcing to the public? They would tell the family. Probably in the home, since that is where they all would be gathered.
Once the family knew, who would know before anyone left the house? The neighbors.
So if any of you are close or even in the neighborhood, pay attention to the comings and goings of the officals. You might pass on a "Pay Attention" alert!
The perp could be family, extended family, or family friend/aquaintance.
If you kept a key outside, who would you tell about it? Extended family, even if they have various arrest records? Friends that may or may not have records?
Neighbor? Did a neighbor see one of the family members get and use the key and learn the location?
Maybe we will be able to learn something by who is at the update and who isn't.
I know where they key is at every relative's house.
We could get into my aunt's house if we locked ourselves out because we have known since kids what window does not lock.
She is in her 70's, lives alone and that window still does not lock, although the way she has a machete positioned, it will take your head off if you do not know it is there.
Although LE may instruct them on what to say or not to say, any increased activity might give a hint to the neighbors. Keep in mind, I am not asking anyone to reveal anything not yet released. I would not want that. But a "Pay Attention" alert should be okay.

Oh Varina thanks for mentioning this! I feel a little better now about watching for the press conference. Lets all hope this is true.
I want to laugh and I want to cry--just do not know which yet. For now I will go with the rumor she is alive.
You are right not to speculate.
I just keep in mind, no matter how anxious and worried I am, no matter how bad I feel, it is nothing compared to what her father is going through.
In my opinion, the answer is there are more out there. We have become a far more permissive, non-judgemental society. We no longer have any of the social strictures that used to help curbthe more base, selfish, hedonistic human impulses.
Honor; protecting your's and your family's good name; fear of being ostracized by one's community; all these social curbs on behavior and more are long gone. We are a society which took the 1960's admonition, "If it feels good, do it," to heart. We scorned "Victorian" social curbs as being old-fashioned and too restrictive. Instead, we have come to not only tolerate, but celebrate the cheap, the tawdry, the vulgar. So we should not be surprised if those among us who have predatory tendencies take our loose, feel-good societal message as license to do what used to be unspeakable things.
