HOMOSASSA, Fla. — The full-scale search for a missing 9-year-old girl ended its final day as law enforcement officers turned to child abduction experts for help.
Investigators and hundreds of volunteer searchers have uncovered little evidence during five days of scouring the rural area where Jessica Lunsford disappeared, and the full-scale search was suspended Monday afternoon.
"To continue this, we would be spinning our wheels," said Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy.
Instead, law enforcement officers were turning to 20 experts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help crack the case. They planned to focus on a three-quarter mile radius area around Jessica's home.
Jessica's father described the change as a second phase of the investigation. After making a plea for her safe return while choking back tears, he expressed confidence that his daughter would come home.
"Just drop her off. I'll come get her," Mark Lunsford answered when asked what he would say to whoever had Jessica. "I know whoever has got Jessie, they have to have a heart."
He also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support. "It's been overwhelming, the people that have shown up," he said. "It makes me feel real good to know everyone's trying to help me out."
Lunsford said he remains convinced that his daughter did not leave home voluntarily even though authorities have uncovered no evidence she was abducted. He said it's unlikely Jessica was lured away.
"She just didn't go with strangers," Lunsford said. He said authorities also are looking for a stuffed purple dolphin missing from his daughter's room.

If someone can show me the stats that prove that more "missing" children are abducted and killed by their parents, I might reconsider.
I understand that some of you want to be the one to find the magic clue and solve the mystery. Sadly, judging the parents based on their looks, the relationship between mom and dad (which, I must say, I admire them for keeping whatever happened there on the down low) or guessing that a 73 yr old grandmother had something to do with it because her LDT was not just right....that all seems a bit much to me. I also understand that some people just don't like to be wrong...heck, neither do I! No need for name calling, etc

It is time for the public to make a stand on sex offenders.
The offenders should be implanted with a chip that can be tracked by satellite. This law should be passed in honor of the loss of little Jessie Lunsford. So called,
"Jessica's Law".
We should be ashamed of ourselves for allowing the children of this great nation to be prey for these animals.

I think the discusson on FR is great...I have been here since nearly the beginning but...I don't think we should be making slanderous assumptions about people without fact. There are many other conditions or reasons he could those same conditions.

Also LDT's are not realiable...they are used for one reason to break a perp down...get them over the breaking point...create a perception that they are nailed and if they just spilled the beans the hassle will be over.
Why anyone would subject themselves to a LDT is beyond me...why would you take a test that cannot prove your innocence but only be used against you...the grandmother is a perfect example.
i intended to say that people look at profiler's analysis as fact and it isn't.

Funny I don't see any posts from anybody offering apologies for the things that they said...
Now the Lunsford's have to spend the rest of their lives wondering how they could have done something different and they will have grief forever...
However, everyone here will just go on posting their wild assumptions and there never is any accountability.
I feel very bad for this family when there should have been more people providing positive things for this family to grab onto...but all we did was attack them and their lives.

Speaking strictly personal here....I am Catholic, educated by some of the finest ruler-whacking penguins in the world. As such, if I were ever threatened with a LDT, I'd immediately plead guilty...to whatever!!! Once, one of my bosses said he loved to hire Catholic girls, we're always guilty and ready to take the blame for whatever!!:) So, I agree, an LDT is a powerful, if inadmissible, investigative tool.
