Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

Well, Einstein, that would be because hardly any illegal aliens are flooding across the Canadian border. (smirk)

I hope that your ignorance is blissful. (really sarcastic smirk)

I got a FR mail along the same lines of this post. I have an amazing low level of sympathy for anyone who claims to be a victim and even less for those who feel entitled to "free speak" on someone else's dime.

Keep up the good work, Jim.

That's good, Jim. Personally, I support a Dead Zone on our southern border, along with boxcars full of liberals and girly-men en route to Canada. If Mexies want to go el norte, the Southern Pacific RR can take them ALL the way up there! I don't think South Americans like hanging around with a bunch of Muslims and liberals; so they will go back home.

I made my point Mr. Inquisitor. Go cross examine someone else.

But your point contained a mistruth concerning American Patrol, which is one of the sites that has been prohibited which is one of the whole reasons behind this thread. Similar to the mischaracterization that American Patrol has often received, I believe that the goal and purpose of the Minuteman Project has also been misinterpreted. It only takes a few people worrying out loud that someone or some website is a "racist", or whatever, and suddenly they're banned or prohibited.

. So, make your point, but please admit that you did NOT receive racist emails FROM American Patrol.

#843, excellent. Since playing the race card has yet to quiet the pro-American, pro-Constitutionalists, this thread was started to, in a backhanded way, threaten those who regard GWB's immigration policies exactly what they are. The policy is anti-American, anti-Constitutional, against the rule of law, and disregards the Presidential oath of office. Just my opinion but if several tens of millions did not see it the right way, the way most of us see it here, then I guess I would be just a bit off base.

"Others" referring to sites like stormfront.org, et al....I simply do not wish to be associated with these sites... I don't want it on FR.

With all due respect, that is hyperbole of the highest caliber. Just because 'stormfront' happens to agree with the 95% of us on issues of invasion doesn't mean that 95% of us agree with stormfront across the board. that is a non-sequitur. I have never been to stormfront but I anticipate that I will be banned for this posting, even so. If so, so be it. I don't believe in sugar-coating. Neither did our founding fathers:

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you and may posterity forget that ye were once our countrymen." Samuel Adams

I also want nothing to do with vigilantism so that rules out the so-called minuteman project.

Vigilante: law-enforcing citizen: somebody who punishes lawbreakers personally and illegally rather than relying on the legal authorities

To say that citizens patrolling the border and alerting those allegedly enforcing border laws of the location of lawbreakers is "vigilantism" is again, hyperbole. If this is true, every citizen's patrol on every street in the US is a "vigilante group" and every person who calls 911 when they witness a crime, or who stops a crime-in-progress through threat or physical force, who detains, shoots or kills an intruder in their own home, Who takes to their rooftop to defend their business in a time of riot, is likewise a "vigilante". The determining factor is NOT the involvement by citzens but rather the deprivation of due process and summary punishment of same by persons lacking authority. I just don't see that being done by those whom you are accusing of same, but I could be wrong.

Final note: I do NOT support open borders or illegal immigration. Sincerely doubt there are many on this forum who do

Thank you for the reassurance. I will post this to other forums in which I participate which are stating otherwise because of the "~Execution~by~ZOT~" of many of those posting on this twinned subject. I should probably go ahead and say 'goodbye' now as I suspect I have just self-destructed by speaking truthfully. But, as Patton was fond of stating: "Audacity, audacity, always audacity." (English translation of the French Proverb)

Well, if they are going to keep making those ridiculous claims, I'm going to reply.

Honest to goodness, what a bunch of cry babies and what an insult to Jim Robinson.

I am very well aware they hate me -- he can just take a damn number.

And I'll hit my knees tonight, thanking God I am not a female member of his family. Talk about hell on earth.
