Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

The data is online.

You want to fix the need for repopulation?

End abortions and privatize Social Security.

Amazingly enough, two of President Bush's stated initiatives.

Meanwhile, his third stated initiative pertinent to this discussion, a working guest worker program, would roll US policy back to the 1960's Bracero program, back to the existing policy before there was an illegal alien problem in the US.

But according to "conservatives"...Bush is the problem.

You still haven't given a good reason NOT to mine the border.

I'm leaving that to common sense. Good luck.

Hey dude, you obviously have a problem.

You want to participate in a web forum and you don't know the rules set by the owner.

Don't make your problem my problem.

Go find the information on your own.

Ask Jim, or post something from VDARE or Stormfront or something...that should give you a general idea of what's not allowed.

Ask a Mod of you like.

Condenan ley antiinmigrante

--- Now they're condemning us??? The corrupt government that is the reason for the mass exodus of it's citizens out of their own country? We should condemn them.

LOL!

Not only do you want to do the impossible here, now you want to control what's going on there as well.

Hell...I can put up thousands of instances of US citizens condemning us here.

It goes right back to your irrational need to paint Mexico and Mexicans in the worst possible light in order to extract emotional reactions from others so that you can rally support for your bias.

Guess what FITZ...most of the world hates us.

Maybe it's time the diputados federales y senadores de Mexico take a good look at some of their laws and do something about the mess they've made in that country. You really think millions of Mexicans only wanted to lose their little ranches and homes in Mexico to come be the cheap servant class of the USA? If things were to straighten up south of the border, many would gladly go back home on their own.

That's nice - except you didn't reply to any of the rebuttals I gave to your reasons against mining the border.

Repeated below. Please, try to counter them instead of giving a snarky, dismissive response.

"It doesn't have to be a monsterous fence! 2 12' chain link fences 100 feet apart should do the trick, with signs in both english and spanish.

Property values on the border are already horrible because of the crime and streams of illegals. You'd think that ending it with a chain link fence could only improve them.

Plus, think about the danger, cost, and problems the rest of the country is burdened by because of the illegal alien invasion. The few issues you raised are minor in comparison."

Yes we can control what's going on over there ---- massive immigration is what is keeping those idiots in power. We control the border and their jobs are done --- they'll be run out of power quite fast --- which is exactly why they're so livid about this. All that easy Mexican money flowing into their Swiss bank accounts would stop.

Do you know why there was the now infamous "Operation Wetback" in the 1950s? It was because guest workers came to the country and refused to leave. History is the best guide we have to making future policy.

No one admires RR as much as me but the 1986 amnesty failed, we don't need another one and we don't need another Bracero program. If more immigrants are necessary and that can be demonstrated then simply raise legal immigration quotas.

And it should include countries from all over the world, not just Mexico. There are plenty of people from Poland, China and other places who'd love to come to the US and be productive citizens.

"Like many people I see racism in Tom Tancredo."

Can you point to specific statements?

Or is this just a vague general feeling you have?

Do you see a solution to the illegal alien invasion, or do you not even see it as a problem?

The whole reason for this condemnation of us is that our Congress isn't bowing down and giving up our sovereignty. The minute we don't obey --- then they condemn us --- The Mexican government is not our friend nor is it a friend to the Mexican people. We should not devise our policies to keep it in power.

You have proven my point that most people, including yourself, don't know the list of journalist who's articles are censored from this site.

This could easily be done by clearly displaying this list on the homepage or where the rules are listed.

Ah, that's a different kettle of fish.

HighFlier posted an article by Ted Rall, which got pulled, as Rall's (expletive) generally is. He reposted the pulled article, never a good idea, which caused his ban. That ban was reversed less than an hour later.

Not a major trauma IMHO.

FITZ....let Mexico handle Mexico.

You've used words like "cheap servant class", "indentured servitude", and even "slave labor" when discussing Mexicans coming to work in the US. You think that they are exploited, abused, and taken advantage of here.

You say that's it's bad for them here.

Get out of your house, walk over to the border and answer a question for me...

Which way are the masses moving?

Then why don't you follow Reagan's vision of tearing down draconian walls.

Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall. Berlin, 1987

"If more immigrants are necessary and that can be demonstrated then simply raise legal immigration quotas. "

Immigrants come to stay, bring families and apply for citizenship, but not necessarily work. Guest laborers come alone to work, cannot apply for citizenship and return home.

It would certainly be easier just to up the immigration allowance and shorten the application period to a couple months. The Immigration Reform Caucus would go postal but it would be a lot easier to do.

But why would you prefer permanent immigrant families over temporary guest workers?
