Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

Hey Dave -- When you see the high beams and the rig horn, simply step aside and chuckle.

There are those loons registered with FR's infamous 'Road Kill' brigade who prowl merely for kicks.

I will make a prediction.
The illegal immigration debate will start when Hillary brings it up in her move to the right in a couple of years or sooner. Rather than let her have the issue we will finally take action. Repair fences, increase border patrol, use military if absolutely necessary and basically get "real" about protecting a very open border.

Those that equate advocating a strong position on protecting our borders with opposing Bush are very short sided IMHO.

honestly, i don't know what the hell you two are talking about with the whole "family" thing.

It goes way back, dave. I can't even remeber how it started, meek probably does. I do remember one thread that must have been around Halloween...and everybody was posting pics of their family members, with outfits. Meek posted on of two cute little kids....and had a caption on it...I can't remember what he said, something about family, but it made me think he was posting his grandkids....well, I fell for it. I really thought that time he posted his family. He later admitted it was his "internet" family or something. He found these cuties by googling or something. I laughed so hard that time, I think I was in tears at what he was saying.

Another time he pretended some dog was his family dog.

Then there's his "uncle fester." It really is funny, dave. It's always some "new" family member! : )

Bottom line

Stormfront et al are of course nazi racist trash.

The GOP needs to walk a Walenda type tightrope concerning the illegal issue.

GOP somehow lost 90% of the black vote over the years in spite of freeing the slaves.

Can't afford to screw up again.

"When people stop and think about it [Illegal Invaders/Open Borders issues] they realize they're not [intrinsically linked to the culture, language, AND independent sovereignty of America as foreseen by the Founding Fathers] and that's why the issue will burn out."

Exactly the kind of cluelessness the Bush Administration is hoping for, but NOT grounded in reality.

I've been quite solidly opposed to illegal immigration... come 'n get me, copper!

Not sure if I am taking your post the wrong way but I think you misread the article and the follow up comments.

There needs to be control on this forum to keep it as good as it has been all these years. Most people on here have surely seen the rise of disruptive trolls and liberals trying to disrupt and challenge this forum.

It is tough enough to keep these disrupters under control, I'm certain, without adding another element to the mix that will have the effect of giving FR a black eye.

We can not be seen as a forum for vigilantes. Calls for our government to act are one thing. Calls for others to take the law their own hands are quite another, especially with the mainstream media gunning for us like they increasingly have been.

This forum has been incredibly well run. It is hard to make a valid argument against this success.

Have you ever heard President Bush state his position on illegal immigration? He says that the present immigration laws don't reflect reality. It's not a question of being for reality or against reality, its a question of how best to reform our laws to reflect reality.

If you were in a city with polluted air would you stop to ask if you are for or against breathing polluted air? The reality would be that you breath.

Kiss my ass Dane. You are part of the problem around here. Another PC koolaid drinker.

I'm part of the problem? Sheesh, I just state that I think the President's proposal is the best way to address a problem that has been festering for 40 years and I mericilessly get ridiculed for it.

Excuse me all omnipotoent warddday for having an opinion.

that analogy doesn’t add up, because if i was in a city with polluted air i would wonder why the clean air laws haven’t been placed into effect, same with the illegal immigration.

Still no answer.

Have you ever heard President Bush state his position on illegal immigration? He says that the present immigration laws don't reflect reality. It's not a question of being for reality or against reality, its a question of how best to reform our laws to reflect reality.

I do not accept this. I don't because no attempt is being made to enforce the law.

If you were in a city with polluted air would you stop to ask if you are for or against breathing polluted air? The reality would be that you breath.

No-attempt-is-being-made-to-enforce-the-existing-law.

You see this as an economic issue.

I see it as one of national survival. With me, its personal.

Sure hope her injuries weren't serious. Apparently not - if she's home and in your care. Still, being in a car accident can be pretty painful. I'm sending up a prayer for her full recovery.

And then your other car went on the fritz, too? Good grief, just damn is right!

Thanks for posting this and allowing the discussion. I appreciate your explanation...but don't feel it's entirely honest. I'm reminded of the moron I work with....and his habit of drinking with the boss. Think moron's going to get zotted? NO.

What generated 1200 posts, I don't know...all I do know is that there are a lot of people that have said they are against Illegal Immigration. Something gave way today and suddenly, everyone wants to chime in. That's great. BUT.

Typing about it on your keyboard ain't gonna fix the problem. Keyboard Commando Level 53 means Jack Squat.

So, why aren't you doing something about it? Talk's cheap.

Back to self-imposed exile...I won't be posting as frequently as I previously have here. Nor will I be donating. Just not feelin' the love...you know?

BTW, in my dealings with all of the Anti-Immigration types...I have NEVER heard mention of Stormfront. Except when a FROBL is commenting.

That should tell you where the problem is...know how it is when you've been married for a while? When you can push each other's buttons without really even trying?? I submit that the FROBL have found a button to push, and that's what they've been doing. Try taking a step back and looking at it.

It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them. Mark Twain

To wake up one morning only to find that I no longer exist.......How does one deal with THAT?

I concur, and it's a d@mn shame the issue is political instead of a legitimate policy to protect and enforce American sovereignty for Americans -- especially in light of 9/11.
