House Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner has renewed his fight to stop federal agencies from accepting as legal identification the driver's licenses issued by states that give licenses to illegal aliens.
In December, this and a few other provisions dealing with border security were stripped by the Senate from the law responding to the recommendations of the Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.
Fulfilling a vow to return to these issues, Sensenbrenner (R.-Wis.) introduced the REAL ID act two weeks ago. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R.-Tex.) has scheduled a vote on the bill this week. HUMAN EVENTS Editor Terence P. Jeffrey spoke with Sensenbrenner last week about his proposal.

Driver's licenses for illegals is nothing but a scam.
Everyone knows that any immigrant with a valid driver's license from their native country is allowed to drive anywhere in America!
The lefties want the illegals to be allowed to obtain a driver's license here so they can go to the next window at the DMV and REGISTER TO VOTE!

Driving is a priveledge not a right..Isnt that what it says on the license.
Imagine your son or daughter killed in a car crash and having no recourse because the illegal alien has no insurance, assets etc..
Think about that...being victimized by someone who snuck into this country to loot our system. That would be very tough for me to handle..
Its happening all the time in the LA area...Its a story that no one will touch.
You're right about Congress but let's work on Bush,too.
One reason Sensenbrenner's much needed provisions were
dropped was because Bush failed to support them. He and
Duncan Hunter have made it clear that the only reason
they're forced to reintroduce the measure is because
Bush preferred his own out-of-control borders policy.
I know, I know.
I might have been the first to coin the phrase "Our 1st Mexican POTUS" in light of Derr Schlickmeisters being dubbed "Our 1st African-American President"...something about the whole deal just can not sit right with my spirit. Sucks that Bush is either a)stupid on the issue, b)too compassionate for America's Constitutional and real viability or c)a globalist that has i)plans to merge us into the New World Order "Major Unions", i.e., Europeon Union, United States of the Americas, etc. and has basically capitulated to the world's hemispheric aspirations -OR- ii) it could be all about oil.
I know it's not just about making $5.00 an hour in the American interior versus $.50 an hour south of America and Mexico.
It's horseshiite. If we're going to make Mexico the 51st state, or 52nd after PR, or 53rd after Castro dies, then please tell us the damn truth.
And it's not just because our latino (many friends) among us procreate abundantly. If that's it, there has to be a better way than NOT SECURING THE BORDERS AND ALLOWING ILLEGALS, CRIMINAL INVADERS AND THEIR AMERICAN TRAITOR ACCOMPLICES - and kissing Fox's ass. If Fox is the best Mexico can do, then maybe it is almost that time where we finally kick the Mexicans in the nuts (war) and proceed.
But Bush is the single most disappointing person in the world to many of us on the issue right now.

A great reply! I think we may win in Iraq but lose the
Mexican War (1845-48). I don't think Mexico will become
a state but we will become a northern province of Mexico.
I just read in National Review that the usual figure of 8-11 million illegals is more like 18-20 million! Right now
the bankrupt school districts, insolvent hospitals, prison
incarceration, welfare and social services are costing
enormous amounts in tax dollars. But this will be as
nothing if terrorists stroll across the border and kill
tens of thousands of Americans. To me it's almost CRIMINAL
negligence in an age of international terrorism to fail
to guard our borders against foreign encroachments.
To use an old cliche, Bush is part of the problem, not
the solution.

SENSENBRENNER: That is not true. The Staff Report on Terrorist Travel outlined how the 9/11 terrorists gamed the immigration system in order to be able to freely go throughout the United States. All but one of the terrorists used their validly issued state driver's licenses to get on the planes on 9/11. The reason they used driver's licenses instead of their passports is that using the passports would have caused suspicion by the airline personnel. Using the driver's licenses didn't, and the result was a national tragedy.

Sensenbrenner and others have pointed out that many of
the 19 9/11 terrorists were going around with multiple
drivers licenses that expired AFTER their VISAs. Among
other things this will prevent such scams. The vast majority of our illegals from Mexico can't even read let
alone drive. Currently, we have such behind the wheels
of vehicles.
