Yes! It is a fairly simple process. The applicant must provide an original, stamped Baptismal Certificate. The individual then writes a letter to the Eparchial bishop indicating their reason for requesting a canonical switch of rites. The prime motive [for changing rites] must be love for the Eastern tradition, and a desire to fully embrace it and live it out. Once the bishop receives this letter, he then forwards a copy to the Diocesan bishop for his approval. When that is received, a formal document is signed along with the signatures of two witnesses. This document formalizes the change of rites and is then sent to the Vatican. It is then recorded and an official notification is sent to the parish where the applicant was first baptized. A new Baptismal Certificate is issued bearing a stamp indicating the official change of rite. (At least that is what I have been told. A Roman Catholic may participate at any Eastern Catholic liturgy and fulfill their Sunday obligation. It is not necessary to formally switch rites. I have elected to make the switch and have just written my letter to the bishop. It will be reviewed tomorrow by my pastor before being sent to him. I will let you know how the rest of the process works.)
As to why someone would want to formally switch rites, there are a multitude of reasons. There was an excellent online article but the link has now been broken. Personally speaking, all aspects of the Maronite Tradition have drawn me into a deeper relationship with our Lord and His blessed Mother. The Maronite Church and especially its liturgy, has captivated my heart and soul. It is now my home. A canonical switch of rites simply formalizes the process.
Thank you!

Try as hard as I can, I cannot comprehend how one can have a relationship with Mary the mother of Christ.
