Immigration plan discouraged by GOP lawmakers

President Bush cannot push his guest-worker program for illegal immigrants and new foreign workers and still win reforms to Social Security or the tax code, congressional opponents said yesterday.

"There are a lot of ambitious plans, a lot of necessary reforms that need to take place, but this rush toward amnesty-light should not be one of the priorities," said Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, who called himself a friend and political ally of the president, but said Mr. Bush's immigration proposal would hurt his broader legislative agenda.

Don't blame Bush because your state is hostile to employers. No employers = no employees. DUH!

Open borders and slave labor. That's what your friend Bush is promoting. And the result will bring this country to its knees - not unions or your so called anti business crap.

Cause and effect. Good jobs being outsourced with illegal immigrants taking what few jobs that are left at slave labor prices.

You people can preen all you want thinking you are so smart. However, in the sweet bye and bye when you grow old and sick and are lying in the nursing home, as many are today, and the home has hired illegals who can't speak English and even understand your pleas for the bed pan, as is happening in many nursing homes across America, I hope you and Bush can think back to this time and know that all the horror that has been brought onto America has been your fault and those like you.

You forgot evil Ronald "Amnesty" Reagan. But I guess it's more productive for you to blame Bush.

"I believe when people use the phrase "open borders", they mean it in a figurative sense "

Yes, that's the excuse they use when they get challenged. But what about the other websites where they never get challenged that are frequented by low brow types who would bomb a federal building with a child care center? Or the site one FR poster has that caters to people wanting to read stories about white girls being gang raped by Mexicans?

When the say "Bush is a traitor" is that figurative? How about when they say "Fox has something on Bush", or "Bush has sold out America", or "Immigrants are destroying our culture", or "Bush wants amnesty" or "Immigrants aren't assimilating", or "Immigrants are bankrupting America", or .......

It's time for the anti-Hispanics to stop using "figurative" as an excuse for lying. There are too many racists, xenophobes, psychos and wackjobs out there who believe a lie when it is repeated enough times by people on the ping lists.

Interesting how you CONSTANTLY call people race baiter AND La Raza devotee. Kinda hypocritical, eh?

It's not race-baiting to point out that somebody is a race-baiter. And bayourod is constantly posting comments that sound like official press releases from La Raza. bayourod also constantly waves the Race Card around, implies that people who are opposed to illegal immigration are racists and anti-Mexican, that American workers are lazy and overpaid, that only Mexican illegal aliens can save the United States from extinction, etc.

"Open borders and slave labor. "

1. It is a lie that we have open borders.
2. It is a lie that we have slave labor.

The only reason we have illegal laborers is because it takes years to get a green card and is very difficult and expensive.

If a worker could get a guest laborer visa quickly and inexpensively why would he risk crossing illegally or remaining illegal?

Guest workers will have all sorts of advantages over illegals including getting a driver's license and living free of being deported.

Why would there be any illegal laborers after a guest workers program is adopted?

What excuse? Some people like to use the phrase "open borders" in a figurative way and they don't hide that fact or feel the need to supply an excuse for doing so. I don't know anything about these other websites that you're referring to or what they say on them.

You're jumping all over the place now and seem to be on a bit of a rampage. I was only talking about using the phrase "open borders" in a figurative sense.

It's time for the anti-Hispanics to stop using "figurative" as an excuse for lying. There are too many racists, xenophobes, psychos and wackjobs out there who believe a lie when it is repeated enough times by people on the ping lists.

And I think it's time for you to quit waving around the Race Card when stating your viewpoints on immigration because it really makes you sound desperate and unstable.

Lots of people like to lie. It doesn't make any difference how many people tell a lie, it's still a lie. And a lie is a lie.

But who are you to say when people are or aren't lying? How do we know when you are or aren't lying? How do we know that when you post something on these threads, you actually believe what you post to be true or you're just plain lying?

If we need immigration (big IF) we need self-reliant, educated immigrants who will be able to obtain private health insurance plans for themselves and family, and who can afford the rent on their houses without government housing subsidies, buy their own food, pay their own costs. And they need to be the kind who show they respect laws --- coming in legally even if it means filling out some papers and waiting their turn. And if they intend to stay --- a willingness to learn English --- on their own dollar.

Anyone saying we have open borders is lying. No one is stupid enough to actually believe we do.

Do you?

Source?

The only reason it might take a little while is because we really don't need 25 million lettuce pickers.

"So when an illegal alien is accepted into the guest worker program, he can still be arrested and deported for being in the United States illegally? "

I don't know the particulars but several posters have said that people applying from within the US who don't have legal status will be subjected to fines or penalties. Tancredo's plan makes them go back to Mexico to apply. I can't really get exorcised about it.

I've been wondering something.

Tell me if you know what the process would be getting a "temporary worker" with the same rights as any citizen (so we're told by "experts" here) to ever leave especially when they've bought property. How did it ever happen that a "temporary legal resident" could buy property. If he over stays his visa, do we deport and do WHAT with his property? Or does he just get to renew the visa forever?

These people are not and do not want to be American citizens and they don't behave like American citizens. I have had business dealings with them and they are among the most arrogant people I've ever met. THEY are legal, and here to stay and don't mind telling you about it. They are also the same ones who help bring in the illegals and teach them to game the system.

Many years ago, when the guest workers came, and left every year, they were great guys. The first problem we saw was when they started getting hooked up with whitetrash welfare queens and learned the "tricks" of the system. They don't leave now, they buy houses and destroy neighborhood after neighborhood. I had some real estate dealings with one with a green card, who could not be turned away from purchase. I refused to do any others. After he bought the place, he demanded the realtor get his electricity/ utilities turned on because "THAT's your job!" He was yelling that in between cursing his badly bruised wife who couldn't speak a word of English, and he had no intention of letting her learn. 12 people lived in that 2 bedroom house.

I'm assuming they have the same property rights as we do. Anybody?

"it might take a little while "

That's my source. Actually I believed you when you said how long and difficult it was to get a green card. Don't tell me you lied to me.

I just can't figure out Bush's logic on this whole issue. It's so out of phase with everything else he's doing.

It is perfectly consistent with 'W's public policies. He is not an American, and we are not American citizens. We are global citizens and he the global leader for the cause of freedom.

This is why spending $15 billion to cure AIDS in Cambodian prostitutes and spending upwards of a billion dollars in Indonesia on people who hate our guts fits in perfectly with forcing you and the rest of the global citizens already in this country to accept yet more global citizens who are willing to do the work you won't do.

Too bad we can't place bets on which number post certain posters will pull out their race card since they run out of other arguments so soon. 194 almost breaks the record.

How much does the family of a slain soldier receive in benefits? I read it was a very low amount. Kind of shameful that foreigners are entitled to far more now than the most patriotic Americans.
