Immigration plan discouraged by GOP lawmakers

President Bush cannot push his guest-worker program for illegal immigrants and new foreign workers and still win reforms to Social Security or the tax code, congressional opponents said yesterday.

"There are a lot of ambitious plans, a lot of necessary reforms that need to take place, but this rush toward amnesty-light should not be one of the priorities," said Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, who called himself a friend and political ally of the president, but said Mr. Bush's immigration proposal would hurt his broader legislative agenda.

Illegals contribute approximately (guesstimate) 14 billion in tax revenue.
It's also estimated that the U.S. loses well over $20B (as I seem to recall, it may actually be higher) a year (and growing) in uncollected taxes due to the underground "black market" economy associated with illegal immigration of all stripes.

Okay lets use that logic for a second. Jose works for 5 bucks and hour under the table. WE grant him legal status and presto he is now elgible for all social services. All at a cost to Jose of a thousand dollars a year.

Care to make a wager what that net result will be? Let's see, Free education, free health care, free or subsidised housing and elgible now for all the SSI disability offers and payments.

One other little thing you left out the newest version of Welfare, the EITC. Figure a public handout to Jose of 1500 dollars for each little spawn his and his mate pop out.

Yeah we'll make out like bandits. (/sarcasm)

Already some areas are experiencing a labor shortage.

And the employment in the Black and Latino Communities in America now is close to 25%.

Perhaps if Bubba Bush spend half the effort and time he is putting in on getting his cousins into this country at trying to get the current unemployed into these jobs I'd buy that argument.

But there is one big flaw in that, the Employers don't want to hire LEGALS because it costs them more in taxes they have to pay to the feds like SSI and workmans comp. They would rather cheat out everyone to line their own pockets who in turn line Jorge Delano Bush's.

Good Grief! Don't you (and that other poster) ever get tired of taking over the board on illegal immigration???

I end up trying not to read these things 'cause every time I turn around...there you are.

I agree, if the Administration really want us to buy into a guest worker program, that will be the only sign I would accept. (But they won't even try)

A guest worker program benefits all parties involved.

Except for those AMERICANS that would do that work if the Criminal Ivaders hadn't depressed the wages so drasticly for those jobs AND the Greedy Employers would actually pay the employees on the books.

But this is the NEW America so screw those that have built this country, its those cousins to the President that sneak in Illegally that we should be giving special treatment.

Not one single foreign country has conquered America since Bush has been President. There has not been one single terrorist attack on America since 9/11.

And the best way to protect Americans, through a strong economy, has been achieved with the assistance of immigrant labor. Crime is down. Home ownership is at an all time high. Unemployment is low.Interest rates are at an historic low. Cars are bigger and more better than ever. Living standards are up. Leisure time is up. Vacation travel is up. Restaurants are booming. Taxes have been cut.

There is no problem except among the chronic losers who will always exist and who will always find someone to blame.

Nice twist but you forgot ONE minor Detail. The Criminal Invader that was caught in Houston or DFW with plans for explosive devises and contacts to other Terrorist and travel plans to go to in NYC.

Now that is the One that was caught. You open border folks better damned well hope there isn't an attack that comes from the south.

Because if and when it does, IMHO the reaction from mainstream America will make the effects of Japanese intern camps look like summer camps for kids.
It will also mark the last Republican elected PResident for a minimum of 50 years.

Actually 'rod does a great service by trying to show us another point of view. I even like his thoughts on Libertarians and I don't think he has a financial interest in open borders He just happens to be wrong on this issue, in my opinion.

I'm not familiar with that case. Can you provide me a link or enough info to do a search?

What part of the Mexican border did he trek across? Or did he swim the Rio Grande?

That's why they do it, meema, to keep you and other concerned citizens off. It's called disrupting on FR, but they must be "guest disruptors", so it's ok.

Everyone else who has been corrected admits that we don't have an open border.

I can't be corrected because I never said we had open borders. Now take your meds and go play in the traffic.

1. No. That is not amnesty. No one is being pardoned for past convictions. No indictments or other pending charges are being dismissed. No investigations or laws are being suspended. No grace period is created. Border jumping laws are not being repealed.

No grace period is created? So when an illegal alien is accepted into the guest worker program, he can still be arrested and deported for being in the United States illegally?

An "open border" is one where anyone is allowed to cross. We do not have an open border. To say that we do is a lie.

I believe when people use the phrase "open borders", they mean it in a figurative sense and they aren't implying that our country has an official policy of having open borders with absolutely no security personnel guarding our borders.

As long as one illegal immigrant a year is able to slip across the border, the chronic losers will still whine that it's the illegal immigrants keeping them from holding a job.

More anti-American rhetoric from bayourod.

Employers would not need to hire illegals if guest workers were available.

Despite the fact that American workers and legal immigrants are available now, many employers still hire illegal aliens simply because they are a cheaper source of labor.

If it ain't broke don't fix it just because some whiners don't like people who look different.

No, you race-baiting fool, it's because THEY ARE IN THE UNITED STATES ILLEGALLY.

It's you who are calling a guest worker program an amnesty program. There is no definition of amnesty that would make Bush's guest worker program an amnesty, except by a definition that you arbitrarily fabricate. Fabricating a definition is just another name for lying.

Spoken like the La Raza devotee you are.
