Immigration plan discouraged by GOP lawmakers

President Bush cannot push his guest-worker program for illegal immigrants and new foreign workers and still win reforms to Social Security or the tax code, congressional opponents said yesterday.

"There are a lot of ambitious plans, a lot of necessary reforms that need to take place, but this rush toward amnesty-light should not be one of the priorities," said Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, who called himself a friend and political ally of the president, but said Mr. Bush's immigration proposal would hurt his broader legislative agenda.

"Rod's idea of prosperity is he'll employ the illegals on the cheap, and the rest of us get to pay taxes to subsidize his under the table wages."

Productive workers pay for themselves through their contributions to the economy as well as the taxes they pay (sales, property, income, fees) and the taxes their employers pay (sales, property, income, fees).

The next time you purchase a pair of shoes at Kmart just see how far you will get trying to tell the clerk that she can't charge you sales tax because you are in the country illegally.

"Milliones aren't crossing the canadian border. "

They might if you sealed off the southern border, the skys, and the shorelines.

We're already watching both the skies and the shorelines. Next.

"It is also a "fact" that there are hundreds or thousands of these people entering the US illegally on a daily basis. It is a "fact" that our government is not detaining and deporting these people as is required by federal law. "

Wrong. The ones who are caught are processed in accordance with the law. An "open border" is one where anyone is allowed to cross. We do not have an open border. To say that we do is a lie.

Everyone else who has been corrected admits that we don't have an open border. They usually excuse themselves by saying they are using the term figuratively. You are the only one to claim that we actually have open borders.

Mr. Bush is usually pretty much in step with the common man, but not only is he totally out of tune on this one, he is also dead wrong.

I've gone offshore a hundred times. Sometimes for several days. I've never been stopped returning to the U.S.

Most drugs come in though the air. One Texas Governor told me he estimated that half the sheriffs were involved in drug trafficking.

No country has ever been able to "seal" their borders completely.

As long as one illegal immigrant a year is able to slip across the border, the chronic losers will still whine that it's the illegal immigrants keeping them from holding a job.

Illegals can't compete with me in the job market. They can however steal my hard earned tax dollars by receiving benefits they don't deserve.

The only losers are you open border type bottom feeders.

"What would change if a guest worker program is created? "

Employers would not need to hire illegals if guest workers were available. Immigrants would not have to risk there lives entering illegally and live in fear of being caught if they can enter legally as guest workers.

"They can however steal my hard earned tax dollars by receiving benefits they don't deserve."

I don't know what you mean by "deserve", but if your legislative representatives establish the qualifications to receive benefits, and illegal immigrants meet those qualifications, they deserve them as much as anyone.

Do people whose ancestors have been here six generation "deserve" something more than those whose ancestors have only been here four generations?

The only people that deserve any benefits are legal citizens.

Why that, among other things, is so hard for you to understand is beyond me.

Assuming of course that you yourself are a legal citizen, which if you aren't would explain your denial of all that is true with respect to this issue.

One that doesn't have to be nearly as elaborate as this one below (Israels)

Wrong again...no thanks.

Shortly before 11 pm Thursday, a truck laden with explosives backed up to the separation wall on the PA side of the crossing and detonated 150 kilograms (330 lbs.) of explosives, creating a large hole. Three suicide bombers armed with grenades, guns and bombs ran in through the opening towards the Israeli side, firing their weapons and throwing grenades

"The only people that deserve any benefits are legal citizens."

That is for your governments to decide. If your local hospital authority votes to extend prenatal care to illegal immigrants that is not Bush's fault. What are you doing about it other than whining on FR?

No. That is not amnesty. No one is being pardoned for past convictions...

What do you mean past convictions? Illegally entering the country, in many cases using forged or bogus documents to secure jobs or social benefits, working off the books etc are illegal activities. Just because they haven't been convicted of it yet doesn't excuse it.

Bush's so-called guest worker plan would forgive all past crimes and let them stay, and even apply for citizenship down the road. That's an amnesty and your side would probably get a lot further with these type of proposals if the twisting of words was replaced with frankness and honesty.

You mean other than calling ICE and reporting and getting illegals deported like I've already done.

I do a lot more than you will ever know than discuss it here on FR.

That's how I know you and your kind are losing this battle and losing it badly as you will see in the coming months.

I don't see anyone blaming illegals for their personal failings here. What I do see is a lot of people who are sick of our federal government not doing it's job and keeping the illegals out or rounding them up and sending them home.

The primary purpose of the federal government is to protect it's citizens and defend the nations sovereignty.

They do neither by allowing illegals to come her uninvited.

"Just because they haven't been convicted of it yet doesn't excuse it. "

No one's "excusing" anything. Have you ever committed a traffic violation and not gotten caught? Were you allowed to renew your drivers' license even though you had violated the law and not been caught? That's not amnesty, that's just the luck of not having been caught doing something in the past.

OK, you're right. A terrorist attak on Israeli's wall proves we can't defend our border; in fact any attempt to do so is futile.

Let's just throw up our arms and let everyone cross the southern border. Come one, come all.
Yup, thanks for convincing me to your side of the argument.

Regards
